About the Author

Pam Reiss grew up helping her family with their catering business and specialty foods store, Desserts Plus. Pam returned to the family business where she is constantly recipe testing and thinking about her next cookbook. Pam lives in Winnipeg.

Pam Reiss has put together an amazing number of delicious soup recipes. She covers all types (parve, dairy, fish, meat and even fruit) and many of the dairy soups can be made parve too. My absolute favourite is the carrot-dill soup. I had tried another carrot soup from a famous kosher cookbook, and it was time consuming (you had to make a rue) and tasted ok. Then I tried this one from Pam Reiss's book and it was healthier (no rue), easier (again no rue), and tasted much better and fresher. I have never made it yet without receiving loads of compliments. Her garlic soup is also fantastic! The most difficult part is peeling and crushing all the garlic, but once that's done, the soup takes literally five minutes, and tastes divine. I always serve it at simchos and yom tov meals with her herbed matzoh balls. They are also delicious. Again, I always get compliments. My family also enjoys the split pea soup, the zucchini soup, and the butternut squash soup (which I make parve). I can't wait to try the Mexican rice and black bean soup, the tortilla soup, and the Thai Ginger Chicken soup. But really the whole book is filled with tantalizing recipes; it's hard to decide where to start first! Pam Reiss comes from a family of caterers and it is obvious from her book she's a soup expert. But what is the best part of this book, (unlike so many of the new kosher cookbooks coming out), is that she creates recipes that are quick, easy, and delicious. There are no pretensions here and you don't need to be a chef to create them. They're perfect for the busy family and you don't need to keep kosher to enjoy them. Definitely worth the five stars and more!

I give this often as a shower present and i use it myself very regularly! Its a great resource if you like soup and keep kosher. Its a delight to NOT have to modify recipes to accommodate kosher cooking!
