I filled my smoker tube with Oak and Pecan pellets, placed it on the grate between my brisket and single lit burner and lit it using a propane torch. My Weber was instantly filled with smoky goodness! One almost full tube lasted about 5 hours. I have read that brisket can only take smoke for the first 4-5 hours of cooking because the formation of bark serves as a barrier. So I did not bother to refill the smoker tube a second time. Brisket turned out awesome!
Overall, this is a great tool for the BBQ enthusiast who does not have a dedicated smoker. I found it very easy to use and it produced excellent results. I highly recommend!
My first use of the tool yesterday was to cold smoke some steaks prior to grilling. All done on the Weber grill. Placed steaks and a dish of ice on the grates (to keep temps as low as possible/safe) and placed smoke tube in the bottom drip pan area. This provided easy access (although not needed because the 5"-6" of pellets burned for 2 hours), captured the fine ash and let the tower of smoke fill the entire upper grilling area. No special venting needed. The tube put out an amazing amount of smoke and required zero maintenance. Lit fast and stayed lit. The attached photo of a very smoky grill shows what came from the tube alone (grill was off) for the entire 2 hours of smoking prior to grilling!
This thing is pretty cool!
