HASH(0x9c128c6c) out of 5 stars Southpaw March 17 2014
By Angela - Published on
This is my 4 star review for Southpaw by Raen Smith.
Southpaw in a short novella in the hero’s POV. Kelly “The Dude” Black is a nerdy Biochemist by day and a sexy MMA fighter by night. He isn’t really looking for a steady relationship. He is content to live his life with one night stands and a routine existence that makes him happy. Thing get interesting when he meets Sexy ring girl Olivia on one of his fight nights. She is beautiful, but doesn’t seem to be interested in what he has to offer. What will happen when his accidental roommate Piper takes him to a Yoga class that he will never forget? Will Olivia be able to look past the fighter and see the man underneath?
This was a short and cute read. It gave us a complete novella in a man’s POV which is very rare. Our hero was strong and thankfully so was the heroine. So many times you read stories with a weaker heroine. I think Olivia held her own in this one. She didn’t give in to him easily and he didn’t come off as a complete jerk. The plot was simple yet enticing and it kept me engaged.
I will have to read more from this author in hopes of getting more on Piper and Cash’s story.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a sexy fighter with a nerdy side.

HASH(0x9bf92c24) out of 5 stars Quick Sexy Read March 29 2014
By Jessica McKelden Cave - Published on
This story went by very quickly for me, as it is a novella. I really enjoyed, it however, despite its length.

Kelly is a charming, sexy hero. He's kind of goofy and I like that in a guy. He's confident and doesn't really waver one he knows what he wants, but he's not annoying and pushy about it.

And then we have Olivia. She's rather darling. She's sweet and a little innocent, but she can kick some a** if she needs to.

When they meet, sparks fly. There is definite chemistry between the two and I believed every moment of it.

I enjoyed the plot. The dates they went on were cutesy and adorable. They both genuinely liked one another and it was fun to read them get on. I'll definitely be looking for the rest of the South Boys novels. I'd love to read Piper's book (hopefully with Cash!).

HASH(0x9c0fc540) out of 5 stars Loved this story! Feb. 17 2014

Received an ARC for an honest review and I have to say that I loved it. This book is a spinoff of Southbound Surrender but takes place while Cash and Piper are apart. Kelly's story is heartbreaking. You can relate and understand him and really hope that Olivia is the one for him. I hope to read more about these two in the near future.
HASH(0x9c2b3e40) out of 5 stars A sexy little read. Sept. 1 2014

Kelly Black was first introduced as Piper's roommate in Southbound Surrender. Bio-tech nerd by day, ladies man and on Tuesday nights, fighter. He holds his past close and those nights in the ring is how he releases that rage. That's also where he sees her for the first time. Olivia Ghirardelli, the fill-in ring girl, catches his eye. She's not in to the type of guy that needs to trample someone else, but there is something about Kelly that makes her second guess her first impression.

Southpaw was a cute, quick read that was very much enjoyed. I typically like my books to have a bit more angst and drama to them, but this was a nice break from the stress of those types of reads. Raen Smith does a good job giving you enough of a story within the confines of a novella. Kelly was someone that caught my eye in SS, but I think him getting a novella was perfect, not sure if a full book would have worked as well given that he was truly a good guy at heart, although his man-whore ways were mentioned in passing, he just didn't come across with that bad-boy edge. But giving us this dose of him with Olivia was perfect.

I've enjoyed both stories in this series so far and will continue on with the journey.
