HASH(0xa5485210) out of 5 stars A nightmare Sept. 11 2011
By M. - Published on
This yarn is a nightmare to crochet with. In order to pull the yarn through the loops, you need to leave everything very loose, which creates an unprofessional look as it's not fuzzy enough to fill in the gaps between stitches. It is crinkly and warped enough, however, to make it very hard to see your stitches...and since the little nubs catch on EVERYTHING, if you make a mistake you may not even be able to pull out the stitches to correct your work.

The recommended crochet hook according to the label is size H. If you actually try to use a size H hook, you'll go mad. I ended up working a few rows with a K hook, which was doable, if not relaxing.

(I'm not a knitter so I can't say with any confidence that it would be similarly horrible for knitting projects, but I wouldn't hold my breath.)

I find it hilarious that the label calls this "soft" boucle. It's not soft. It's not even particularly soft in the skein, but once it's worked up, it's got an almost crunchy texture. Maybe washing improves that, but I'll never know since I'm writing this yarn off as a bad mistake.

HASH(0xa548554c) out of 5 stars Good for Unique Projects Dec 3 2011
By M. Patterson - Published on
As the previous reviewer has stated this isn't the easiest yarn to work with. This is a textured yarn & thus should be treated as such when purchasing. It would work great for loom knitting, or other craft projects but as a crocheter or needle knitter I would only recommend if you are experienced.

It has a thick texture feel with a lot of lumps & bumps. That aside, if you enjoy creating unique projects using mixed textures & yarns as I do this is a great option. It is not as soft or thin as other boucles I have used. It has a much thicker texture which creates a very unique project. It is perfect for Fashion items such Hats, Scarfs, Purses, Backpacks etc. I have not found another yarn with this unique chunky texture (except other bernat brand boucle) so I often order it for projects...

HOWEVER it seems quite pricey on here. Buying it at other craft stores even online it is about 1/3 cheaper elsewhere.

(currently $8.69 on Amazon & $5.99 elsewhere)

HASH(0xa5482cc0) out of 5 stars A beautiful yarn! Aug. 28 2014

This is a lovely yarn. I've used it in several different colors to make myself winter hats using Bernat's free beret pattern (which was included on the wrapper for the yarn). The hats I've made with Soft Boucle yarn are soft, pretty, and warm. Also, they machine-wash well, which to me is a very important quality. One skein was more than enough to make one of the hats. In fact, I lost a gray one I had made several years ago, and I had enough of the skein left to make another one for myself. I've gotten lots of compliments on the hats, and people are very surprised to learn that I made them myself. I can't recommend it for the novice knitter due to the fact that the loopy texture makes it tricky to work with, but if you are even a moderately experienced knitter, you shouldn't have any problems.
