The writing in Spirit Fighter is descriptive, engaging and fast-paced, but it's the subject matter that I find disturbing. Having a Pentecostal background and having experienced some upsetting spiritual conflicts in the past, I was disturbed to see such a graphic book created for children (ages 9 and up). Perhaps I am over-sensitive, but I do not want my middle-school-aged children to have the severity of the spiritual realm brought so vividly to life. Do my children know there are angels and demons? Yes. Do they know they have God and his armour to protect them? Yes. Do I want them seeing demons behind every tree and possessing strangers on the subway? NO. I do not believe that this last statement is truly the case, but since Spirit Fighter describes it to be so, it would be hard for my kids to distinguish between reality and fantasy after reading the book.
This book is being touted as a replacement for Percy Jackson and The Kane Chronicles'a Christian fantasy alternative. With Jackson and Kane, the fantasy is clear and I have yet to meet a child who would confuse it for reality. Spirit Fighter takes a spiritual reality and muddies the water by having a child need to be one quarter angel to have power enough to defeat the enemy. The name of Jesus is all that anyone needs. Period.
I had high hopes for Spirit Fighter, but it will not be a book for my children or any other children that I know.
I give this book 2 stars out of 5.
I received this book free from BookSneeze. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

He can't wait for the next one! Or the movie!!
I agree with the other reviewer in the point that I am highly suspect to the fact that Nephilim actually exist. With that in mind I came into the book highly skeptical but since there are so few good Christian fiction for youth I wanted to give it a shot.
My first issue I had with the book was how a pastors family could be so un educated in matters of the Bible. It felt like they were being told things they should have already known. Along that line you'd think a pastor would have married a Christian woman. Assuming she was I don't understand why the angels were so skeptical about if whether or not she was good. And if she wasn't I have a hard time seeing her married to a pastor.
My second big issue was with the Angels themselves. They seemed way too human for beings that the Bible clearly states are not human. They dressed human, wanted promotions, were prone to make mistakes, disagreed with each other, and were susceptible to manipulation. Ex. Jonah talking Henry into doing something Henry said he shouldn't do(showing off his powers). I think whatever jobs that God gives the Angels they're probably perfectly content with and they probably don't get promotions.
Then we see demons kidnapping people and a spiritual realm people can actually cross over into. Now I do believe there is a spiritual battle going on but I don't think that is it specific realm that partial human angels can cross over into. I feel like overall the author took a lot of creative liberty and stretched the truth, I believe at least, to the point where it resembled something that you would read in Greek mythology or basically no longer represented the truth.
Overall I would suggest reading this before you give it to your kids to see if it really is something you want your kids to be believing, even if only in part
