Much appreciated and recommended, regardless of your theological predispositions, unless you deny the existence of physical evil. In that case nothing will make sense, even though this book lays out clearly the bases for such deliverance.

What I personally have found invaluable are:
1. He talks about the three areas that Christians need to battle- the flesh, the world and the devil. Therefore, this book is not just about demons, though a large part is devoted to that area.
2. The section that is about demons is very specific and practical. He walks every Christian through how to overcome demons through Christ's authority by laying it out step by step. I also appreciated his sharing of some of his experiences, including his first encounters where things did not go well because everyone involved was unaware of the specific steps he talks about.
I found after reading this book I went from pleading ignorance in spiritual warfare as my way of [falsely] "protecting" myself to understanding the simple steps under Christ's authority of how we can overcome.[and continue to study]
Also, an important thing to note- "His book has recently been selected as one of just two books that Wycliffe Bible Translators will utilize in the training of all their missionaries." [...]
I really feel this book is a must read for Christians. Thank you, Karl, for sharing your wisdom and experiences for us all to learn from.
Karl Payne explains very clearly exactly what this friend was experiencing, a level of demonic attack that he calls "demonization". He explains that demonization is different than oppression and possession. From his many encounters with true believers that have suffered from demonization, Dr. Payne exposes the tactics that demons use to try to destroy Christians. He goes beyond describing to explaining step by step how we can help those who are experiencing this kind of attack. His approach is Biblical and supported every step of the way by scripture. I believe that every Christian needs to be wise regarding the schemes of our enemy, and I am encouraging every believer I know to read this book. Thank you Karl Payne for your willingness to speak out on this often unpopular and usually misunderstood topic with sound Biblical wisdom.
Having been involved in intercession and deliverance ministries; I find the methodical and almost "clinical" approach to deliverance to be encouraging in that many believers are very uncomfortable if not scared of the historical attempts at deliverance. These very attempts are often lampooned in the media (and the church) as a circus-like atmosphere which is not helpful in terms of giving credibility to deliverance activities regardless of their good intentions and somewhat effectiveness. I believe that widespread studying of this book will quickly advance the Body of Christ in recognizing and winning spiritual warfare as evil spiritual activity continues to increase in the world until Jesus returns to claim His Bride.
Dr. Karl Payne's academic work is well established. He has authored books that are well researched and clearly written. He has developed a wide variety of training material for use in apologetics and evangelism. Karl organizes World View Conferences that bring in well known speakers and educators to discuss a wide variety of contemporary issues. Karl is current and informed. He has collaborated with others in writing on social issues, such as the book on Just Defense, see:
A Just Defense: The Use of Force, Nuclear Weapons, and Our Conscience (Critical Concern Book)
Karl plainly addresses the issues at the real world level; he's pragmatic, coherent and direct. He is not afraid of an intellectual confrontation and maintains a level of dignity and professionalism that is expected of someone who walks the talk. I've known Karl for many years and enjoy his pedagogy. Karl stands unquestionably on the Word of God and is able to make his points through the scriptures. His confidence is in the Word. Karl's day job gives him insights into the issues addressed in this book that very few will ever see or experience, thankfully.
