This product is fantastic. Much better than the cheap options available on facebook. Upon receipt I was blown away by the weight of the product compared to the cheap one I was sending back. Typical Startech quality on full display here.

    The Good:
    - Works seamlessly in an original xbox to allow for the use of massive SATA drives (I used it to max out the 2TB limitation of the hardware)
    - Made with good materials
    - Includes a molex passthrough to chain the adapter between a source and another drive
    - Includes jumpers to allow master/slave/cable select
    - The power adapter attaches parallel to the board, freeing up space in otherwise craped situations

    The Bad:
    - Both sides of the board is left entirely exposed, inviting shorts. Would highly recommend taping off the back of the board, regardless of use
    - The power cable uses the mini-molex plug used by legacy floppy drives, meaning you need to use the included cable to power the adapter. Not a deal breaker, but extra, unnecessary, wires always suck

    The Ugly:
    - As opposed to a standard plastic ATA socket, this adapter uses a pin header. Your IDE ribbon will fit fine, but it seems to attach muss less sturdy

This device is 300% of the price of competing cheap options, but it is largely worth it to have a one-and-done solution. If you're looking to upgrade your original xbox hard drive in 2021, you really can't go wrong with this.

Worked perfectly to upgrade the HDD of my Original Xbox. I tried 3 other ones that were cheaper, all were incompatible. This one worked perfectly and had the convenience of having an extra 4 pin cable to power on both HDD at the same time for the swap. This one had the jumper for master/cable/slave which was quite useful do clone the original HDD. It was a bit more difficult to tuck in the extra 4 pin cable in the console but it worked nonetheless.

I used this to add a 2TB hdd to my Xbox Crystal. Works without any type of setup. I'm not too confident about the tiny foam bumper to keep the board from touching the HDD case and shorting out so I put my own foam on, cutting holes for the chips so they don't overheat. I will also add some protection on the outside, not a fault of the product, it's just for my piece of mind while trying to stuff it back in the xbox. 5 stars because it does exactly what I wanted it to do. 3 stars because of the small foam protection pad.

I've been trying to make run an Intel SATA SSD 80Gb on a Dual Pentium 3 machine as a Master (system Windows XP), with an other 200Gb IDE in Slave (storage/backup).
After tried a bunch of SATA to IDE adapters, they all behave the same way: working fine alone, cannot boot when use with an other disk on the IDE cable. At this point I was thinking that maybe the SSD doesn't support master/slave status.
But the Startech one works right of the bat, plug, detected quickly both the SATA SSD and IDE, and boot on my system.
I haven't test the speed, but just having access to the system and the storage for the first time is a huge win for me.
The adapter have a proper Master/Slave/Cable Select and an ACD for optical drive.
The IDE connector doesn't have a shrould, so yes be careful when you plug your ribbon cable.

I bought two of these so that I could use modern SSDs in my OG Xbox and PowerMac G4. The adapters work perfectly, but be cautious when inserting and removing your PATA/IDE cable. When switching cables, I accidentally bent two of the pins slightly outwards; I was able to bend them back into place, but this adapter isn't something you want to continuously move between drives/devices. It's more of a one-and-done thing, I'd say.

So bought this to mod an original xbox, couple things you should know before purchasing. There is no 'slot' to connect to, it's straight pins off the board so if you plan on connecting and disconnecting the cable from this adapter more than once, it's not hard to bend them, still works but they're bent. Also you should use some electrical tape to tape across the exposed connectors on the adapter, it's been known to have shorts if it touches the wrong thing in your machine so just to be safe tape across the exposed connectors under the pins. Other than that sturdy built and well made, great for what I needed it for.
