Product Description

This year more than five million entrepreneurs will launch a new venture. Many of them believe they have the Next Big Thing. But very few startups live to see five years, and even fewer make it to ten. Even fewer still go on to become a global success stories.

This book is a practical guide to evaluating your business idea and a must-read for all aspiring entrepreneurs.

You’ll learn:

-that if your new venture doesn’t follow the 10x Rule, you should not quit your day job and why

-how early customer development can transform a good idea into a great opportunity

-which opportunities are worth selling everything for

Brad Feld and Dr. Sean Wise have been assessing startup opportunities for more than two decades. They have witnessed more than 30,000 pitches and participated in more than 500 startup launches. Now two of North America’s leading minds in venture capital share how they determine which startups will succeed and which will fail.

This book is indispensable for anybody who has ever thought about starting a business or fumbled their way through giving advice about starting a business.

Probably the hardest thing about entrepreneurship is maintaining a high level of motivation and confidence in our idea, while still having the capacity to take a step back and analyse our true odds of success.
That's especially true for entrepreneurs who "think big", setting out to build a big company that will eventually help millions of clients and provide work for thousands of people.
In this situation, a key question to ask is : Am I working on the right idea?

Before Sean and Brad took the time to write "Startup Opportunities", founders could find segments of answers to this critical questions scattered through various books and blogs and TV shows. Not only did this take a great deal of time (something founders lack), founders also risked missing out on an important point.

Problem solved.

"Startup Opportunities" is a VERY complete book. It discusses in depth the 4 key success factors behind a successful business (People-Pain-Product-Market), and then takes the reader on a journey from "validated idea" to "VC founded validated idea" in the next 4 chapters (Plan-Pitch-Raising Money-Pitfalls).

Maybe even more valuable are the real life case studies written from both the founder and VC perspective (including comments from Chris Sacca, Joanne Wilson, Stephanie Palmeri, Jon Callaghan, and many other very successful VCs/angels), and covering an extremely wide spectrum of markets and products.

Abraham Lincoln said, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.”
If you are a founder, Startup Opportunities will make your axe as sharp as it can be.

Great read! A practical guide for anyone that is considering starting their own business. It's an easy and straightforward read that helps you ask the right questions about whether your start up idea is worth pursuing. Both authors share many of their own personal experiences, and those of other entrepreneurs that have succeed and failed, and why. Two thumbs up!!
