Perfect for memorization and phonetics! Key to spelling!!!!

Great spelling book! Really helps reinforce basic spelling sounds. I like the review of spelling words every group of lessons. It drives the memorization home. I am sad as a teacher to see this be discontinued. Children have to learn basic phonetics which this series has reintegrated . Basically the new common core books teach to jump in before one knows how to swim. I am a firm believer kids need to grasp, memorization, phonetics, and meaning before harder words are introduced. The newer spelling books are pushing children and they are missing the basics and pushed through. This approach in Steck& Vaughn is wonderfully balanced! You won't waste your money.
Challening Spelling Program

Both of my daughters used this for their spelling curriculum in our homeschool this year. It's a great workbook. They are 9 and 10 yrs old (grades 4 and 5). This spelling workbook is for grade 5. My girls have good reading skills so we found the Level 5 to be a good match for them. It's a challenging book. It not only teaches spelling, but proofreading, language connections, fill-in-the-blanks, pronunciation, and each lesson's words has a theme or a spelling pattern for the children to learn. We did not need a teacher's manual. The worksbooks are self-explanatory. I gave the girls a pre-test and a post-test. We look forward to Level 6.

It is a great resource with a variety of language practise. The only downside is it doesn't have an answer key.
My "go to" spelling text
April 20, 2016 - Published on Amazon.com
This is a great, easy go to text that creates a routine that the kids learn and know what is expected. It teaches more than spelling it teaches how to use the words in context.
