Product Description

Elle isn't looking for love. Hardened by years on the streets, she's learned to take care of herself by covering her heart with ice and keeping men at arm's length. She's not weak and she doesn't need to be saved. But she wouldn't mind getting laid a little more often.

J's covered his heart with steel. He owe's his life to an MC that is not what it seems. Since he knows his priority must be to the club's demands, no matter how violent, he decided a long time ago that love didn't fit anywhere in his life.

A not so chance, but definitely hot encounter on a dance floor should be enough for J, but he can't seem to stay away from Elle. As she begins to melt his steel, and he manages to chip away her ice, his forced loyalty to the MC threatens to tear them apart. When the risk becomes greater than J expected, will love be enough to keep Elle from freezing her heart to him?

My rating: 4 of 5 ⭐️

Coming from a rough start, of which part was spent living on the streets, Elle has adopted a defensive attitude for every occasion. Only her two best friends know Elle deeper than the current mask she might be wearing, every one else is fitted into segregated and clearly labeled compartments, kept there for Elle's own feeling of security. And that includes the one night stands she only indulges in.... That is to say - until she bumps into a giant hottie named J, who seems intent on breaking down each and every one of her defenses.

A rebellious youth lead J into the path of an MC, the same club that now, after years of growing and wisening up, was still demanding he pay his dues. It had been a long time J had wanted out, but loyalties and duty kept him bound. A life not really his own, he never considered a woman as a possible permanent fixture in his own. But then he meets Elle, and everything about her draws him, and against his better judgement he falls.....

Can I just say DAYUM!!
A very good and very different type of MC novel, with a focus more on the perifery than on the inside view.

This is NOT a standalone novel, it is the beginning of Elle and J's story.....and promising to be a bumpy one!

Yes, the pot-smoking, peddling and tough street-slang is not my kinda 'thang' either..... HOWEVER, that is simply the scene in which this story is set, and whether I can identify with the characters personally or not, they can speak to me..... And I have to say, Elle and J speak to me LOUDLY......

Their story is a very compelling one, with so many layers covered up by all that tough exterior - layers we have to patiently wait to see come unfolded.

Emily is an amazing writer, BUT I don't care how great the writer is, I can't stand cliff hangers that require you to purchase the next book, by which time I've read so many other books all the plots are getting all mixed up. The only thing worse is a Trilogy you're not warned about.

I can't believe I am the first to write a review.. I LOVED this book. The chemistry between J & Elle is just amazing. The story flowed pretty well. I felt at times it was rushed or vague but the content kept me interested. Never did I see the cliff hanger that occurred, & it left me feeling..Stunned. yep that is the wood... I am speechless & honestly I can't wait for J Speaks & Melted & Shattered... I'm gonna go nuts until then!!! Great job...

HASH(0x9ada530c) out of 5 stars Perfect mix of wild action and steamy romance April 29 2015

Well what a treat...and who knew Applebee employees could be so colorful and outrageous?
This book has been on my wishlist for a while and it is on a free promotion right now, so grab it while you can!
A mix of street smart kids, bikers, mafia/drug dealers, tough-talking but kind-hearted chicks and a love story that is as rough and wild as it is tender and romantic.
We are left with an OMG cliffhanger ending that I didn't see coming (but guess I should have) and am wondering now WTH just happened?
I really can't begin to explain all the action in this is so complex, so many interactions with all the characters and plenty of steamy (and I do mean STEAMY) sex.
Romance, mafia and biker book lovers will all like this one although this first book was more about family and teens who are having a hard time growing up on the right side of the tracks.

**** 4 **** "J&L are a like fireworks" stars

HASH(0x9ada5600) out of 5 stars Five star steel May 1 2014

I must admit I haven't read a lot of these street type books but this one had me hooked, the emotions and the sheer chemistry between not only Elle and J but everyone was incredible, the language and terms used I must admit had me guessing but after a while I got them and was into the swing of the story and then how could she do that to us, stop where she did OMG I didn't see that coming I was so involved I didn't notice how few pages there where and I was madly swiping to get to the next and it was the there.
How could you not fall for Elle, a toughie with a heart of gold, a student and a cook, and as she quotes to J "just like a ogre and an onion she has lots of layers" and we get to see more of them than anyone else as the story is all from her point of view. We go through every emotion and every change of layers with her and I love the fact because we can see how many emotions and feelings she has but if we just met her would we just judge her from appearances on one of her layers. The one quote that is seen from her walls is “Every person, all the events of your life are there because you have drawn them there. What you chose to do with them is up to you. –Richard Bach.” Now Elle has to choose what to do about J.
J “I turned my head and was looking at the chest of a man leaning against the bar. My eyes crept up, and up, and up until I reached his face. High cheek bones, olive skin, exotic eyes, lips that begged to be chewed on. Holy ****, it was the giant hottie from Checks. He had jeans slung low on his hips and the same black hoodie he wore at Checks sans the vest and hat. Good God, even his hair was sexy. Dark, shiny, thick, and long” wow get a fan because this just gets hotter! all that and sensitive and thoughtful too, the bracelet and the token got me by the jacket I was gone.
There are so many memorable characters in this book that I don't have time to go into them all, suffice to say that if they are in the book they have a purpose and if they gave a name you are going to remember them as they are all so well written that you can't forget.
Have to love Chris the BFF and she really is one with all she has gone through and they have, both Elle and Chris know they are there for each other, definitely a case of Ho before Bro.
Aaron is bought alive as is Larry, and then the teenagers from the centre. They all come together to make this a book that should not be missed even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone and reading a book, a genre you wouldn't normally this makes it worthwhile.
I received a free copy for an honest review.

HASH(0x9ada5af8) out of 5 stars i loved this book, it is a must read, read in order!! April 28 2014

Steel & Ice is the first in the series and it is a must read. I gave this one 5 stars. Emily Eck did an awesome job telling this story and I fell in love with Elle, J, and all the characters of this story. I was drawn into this book within the first few pages. I absolutely loved the dialect and slang that Emily used. I felt just like I was back in high school and talking to some of my friends. It brought back a lot of good memories. I understand the different sides of Elle. I feel the same way. There so many different sides of me but only one person gets to experience the REAL me with them all the time and “it’s home.” "Home wasn't a building or structure one lived in. Home was an idea, a phenomenon, an unexplainable feeling, a peace and contentment with the universe."

The REAL Elle is shared only with her close friends Chris & Aaron. There is Kitchen Elle, Clubbing Elle, and School Elle & REAL Elle. Elle volunteers at a Spanish children’s center where she forms a bond with some teenagers she thought she would never enjoy. She cooks for them once a week to give them a break from their nightly pizza. She has been through a rough life with not the typical loving mother figure. She is headstrong and is used to taking charge of every room, and making her presence shine. She has guarded her heart with ice and doesn’t allow anyone to melt those walls down.

J is the typical bad boy that everyone would go after. He is tall, dark and handsome. He spots Elle and decides he just can’t stay away from her. He is drawn to his light and decided he has to have her. J has also guarded his heart but with steel. He has been burnt in the past as well. What sacrifices will J make to be a part of Elle’s life?

Will Elle’s love for her teens make or break her relationship with J?

The ending of this book is definitely not anything I expected to happen and it is a total cliff hanger and will make you begging to read the next part of this series. You should read J Speaks to get J’s point of view on everything that happens.
