Steve the Urban Rabbit is a children's book written by Karen E. Smith. The book starts with a rhyming story and ends with facts and ideas about the nature that surrounds us no matter where we are. We tend to forget that both urban and rural settings contain animals, insects, and plants. This is a rhyming story illustrated by the author, followed by "Rabbit Bytes" or facts about house rabbits and wild rabbits.
About the Author
Karen E. Smith, PhD, is a university professor and researcher in literacy education. She has published widely on the topic of digital literacy. Dr. Smith promotes inter-generational reading practices and family literacy especially through the interchangeable use of both paper-based books and e-readers. She states, "Literacy learning is a cultural and family practice. Literacy practices are now mixed between paper and e-texts. For the sake of literacy acquisition, let us not separate the generations into the digital natives and digital immigrants. Literacy is cultural, and therefore we need to share the love reading intergenerationally. I am against digital illiteracy and for transliteracy."
