Product Description

Genevieve is a lawyer, not a babysitter, and certainly not a dog trainer. She is just about to become a full barrister, a British litigating attorney, when her law mentor dies unexpectedly. She is shuffled off to another barrister, one who’s nothing at all like her kind and decent former mentor, and then she is assigned the office’s worst case: Arthur Finch-Hatten, six-feet and four-inches of ripped, loaded, hot English nobleman who is wasting his life and his inherited estate so audaciously that his younger brother is suing him for control of their family’s earldom. There is a darn good chance that Arthur will lose everything, even his crazed, badly behaved puppy.

Unless he shapes up.

Gen’s new boss hasn’t been able to convince Arthur to mend his ways. His uncle’s lectures haven’t had any effect on his depraved debauchery and lavish lifestyle.

The only way for Genevieve to make partner is to win Arthur’s case, and the only way to win his case and save his earldom is to keep him from spending his days hungover in bed and his nights pouring Cristal on drunk, naked women before flying off in his private jumbo jet to the next party.

Arthur is enough to make any woman need a stiff drink.

Simply Smashing! Blair Babylon has outdone herself once again, with this fast paced, intrigue filled tale, that not only keeps you guessing, but has you wanting much more, of Arthur and Genevieve! In a "James Bond" style plot with more than a few twists and turns, this book will leave you drooling and yearning for adventure, as we follow the quaint and humorous antics of Lord Severn and his Barrister, Gen, who is willing to try just about anything to keep him out of trouble and from loosing his title, even if that means that she's more of his babysitter than his barrister. But somewhere along the way, it would appear that neither of them are prepared for the feelings that are sure to form thanks to their forever changing plans. One thing is won't have time to be bored, and Ms. Babylon has made it extremely difficult to put this book down! A warning though, this is part one of the duet, so be prepared to be left hanging at the end. So excited to read part two!
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily giving my honest opinion.

★★★★½ My "problem" with Blair Babylon's books is always the same: she creates great complex characters which stay with me a long time after finishing the book. Her stories are never done after I close the book I think about the characters, analyze each situation, go back and forth on their actions and thoughts. I flew through the book and loved it, but once done I was thinking about the story and a two things started to irritate me: I really can't imagine on which grounds Arthur's brother could win his claim, I haven't never heard of Earldoms being inherited because you deserve it? The second thing is the relationship between Arthur and Gen, just because your bosses know it's a scam doesn't mean will not be seen as unethical. I'm really excited to find out if things get a bit clearer in the second installment ... *I received an ARC from the publisher*

How did I not know this is part one of two? Oh, because I just jumped right in when I saw Blair had a new book out!

Believe me when I say Arthur is the bomb. He's sexy AF, British and a!

Gen is all sorts of mysterious. She has experienced trama in her past that has her terrified of men. She is an up and coming lawyer who gets saddled with a case no one wanted.

They couldn't be more opposite from one an0ther but somehow it works! Stiff Drink meanders along with some very interesting turns. I couldn't put it down and I cannot wait for Hard Liquor.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fantastic slow-burn story. March 28 2017

It's a little hard for me to explain how much and why I like books by Blair Babylon. As a general rule, I hate books with cliffhangers (please don't stop reading yet) but her stories are so compelling I just can't stay away from them and – this is important – she doesn't make you wait more than a few months for the next book. In the case of this story, the next book will also be the conclusion to Arthur and Gen story. Because I appreciate it when other reviewers mention a book has a cliffhanger I feel compelled to do the same but I implore you to give her writing a chance.

Blair Babylon is a superb storyteller. Her writing is witty, funny, tear-inducing, snarky (at times) and she uses words that challenge my vocabulary. Her Billionaires in Disguise: Rae series (available now as one book that contains the entire story) remains one of my all-time favorite books. I loved it so much I even bought the paperback copy. Never before in my life have I spent $24.99 on a book but that's how much I loved that story and I had to have a copy for my keeper shelf.

Now for something about Stiff Drink. We met Arthur in Working Stiff (Casimir's story) and I have to say he didn't come off too well. (You don't need to read Working Stiff to enjoy Stiff Drink as it stands alone with no problem.) Stiff Drink contains several surprises about Arthur and we learn that not everything is as it seems.

Once I started reading Working Stiff I couldn't put it down. I fell in love with Gen's character, too. She's trying so hard to be British and give up the Americanisms that hamper her climb up the career ladder. Arthur is helping her with that project and they come to work very well together.

This story made me laugh out loud in several places and shed tears in others. This kind of reaction from me is exactly what I look for in a good book and Blair always delivers just what I need. I nearly forgot to mention that the sexual tension between Arthur and Gen is absolutely delicious!

I received an advanced copy of this story some time ago but I had a hard time making myself start it because I knew I wouldn't want it to end. I know that doesn't make too much sense but it's been a while since Blair's had a new full-length novel released and I just wanted to savor it. I'm so glad I learned about her books three years ago; I hope you will give them a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Arthur is such a sweet, hot, mysterious Brit April 3 2017

Oooooh how I love Blair Babylon's writing style and the exciting characters she creates. I read through her entire Billionaires series from start to finish from time to time just b/c I LOVE the characters both male and female and their stories. Blair - through her writing style - makes you laugh out loud, giggle, cry, get heated up, get turned on. I also love it when she gives full blown life to one of the background characters in her stories. She has done just that with Arthur. Arthur is a good friend of Casmir's who is the lead male character in Blair's "Working Stiff" books. I fell in love with Arthur when he bear-hugs Cas and Rox - very out of character for a stuffy, billionaire Brit who gives-no-f**ks - b/c he was so worried for their safety. BUT, that being said Blair writes each of her characters' books so each can stand alone in case you haven't had the opportunity to read her other books - BUT, if you haven't read this series, YOU NEED TO READ THEM b/c they are SO GOOD. Arthur and Gen are great characters you can't help but slowly fall in love with and want to know more about and find out what makes them who they are and find out how they end up. Blair has you laughing along with these two as they grow in friendship. Oh and their attraction has been described by many as a sloooww burn and that is a VERY appropriate description!! VERY Good! Oh and also hotly sweet or is it sweetly hot (read the book and let me know if that is how you would describe our fine male lead guy Arthur and their growing attraction) ;-). I usually wait to read the first book after the second book comes out in a series BUT with this one I jumped right in knowing there was a part two but I didn't care b/c I had to start reading about Arthur. I will just have to re-read "Stiff Drink" again right before "Hard Liquor" comes out in a couple of months. ;-D
5.0 out of 5 stars well-developed characters and super-intriguing plot April 1 2017

The story of Gen and Arthur is totally serving of 2 books. Each of them as individuals, as a couple, an the larger machinations in their world are intriguing enough to need all that space to explore. Tip of the hat to Blair Babylon for the level of detail she brings to her social/cultural study of British (and Texans). It's fun to read how self-aware of culture the characters are.
This is a fantastic slow-build for Gen & Arthur's relationship. There is so much going on but everything is well balanced. The characters have great layers; they are both clever and funny. For how closely Arthur guards his life we end up learning a lot more about him than Gen. I am very curious about her -- who she was before "the incident" and what her relationships with her parents were really like. Arthur and Gen are people I really care about. Their chemistry and growing relationship have totally hooked me.
I did read "Working Stiff" before, so I knew that even if the premise of "crazy-hot-rich guy falls for overweight-low-self-esteem gal" seems eye-rolling, the characters and plot would be redeemed. There were some cute "Easter eggs" from events that happened in "Working Stiff", but you won't have to read the first book in the series to enjoy/know Arthur's story.
This book was a satisfying read in itself *and * the plot totally deserves two books. I don't feel tricked at all that this will be 2 novels. I'm grateful that I get to spend more time with these characters and witness how they grow & how they handle their impending problems. I am curious, if Arthur finds Gen so physically attractive, why her mother made such a point her whole life to make Gen believe she was ugly. I hope we get to know more of Gen's backstory just as we got to know Arthur. And, I am so curious to see so the "barrister dating her client" thing works out. There is disaster written all over the place, but I have faith in Blair Babylon and her care for her characters. I have no idea what will happen in book 2, and that is so awesome!
5.0 out of 5 stars Loving Arthur and Gen!!! April 8 2017

Another great book by Blair!!! This book will keep your attention from page one until the very end. We met the mysterious billionaire playboy Arthur Finch-Hatten "Lord Sevren" in previous books but now we get to learn more about him. Genevieve is a British Barrister with a bit of Texas accent trying to fit in when her mentor and friend suddenly dies. The only thing Gen can think while Horace's cases are being dispersed is "Not Lord Arthur, please" but the fates are against her. Arthur is being sued by his brother for ownership of the family estate and all that goes with it because of Arthur's reputation as "Lord Gives no f*#k". Gen is tasked as a babysitter for Arthur to keep him in line or find another barrister. There is another side of Arthur nobody knows about but a few select people and all is not as it seems. There is an attraction between Arthur and Gen but there is something in Gen's past that causes a panic in her to even be touched. As Arthur and Gen spend time together a bond of friendship is formed but so are some fantasies. What a great start of a duet for Arthur!! Be prepared to become engrossed in this book that will make you laugh, roll your eyes and want to smack someone. Love it and can't wait for the second part " Hard Liquor".

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book
Thank you Blair Babylon
5.0 out of 5 stars Sizzling new read from Blair! March 31 2017

Arthur and Gen story is such a blazing read. When Gen gets stuck with the only case of her former mentor’s that she didn’t want, she knew she was in for trouble. She didn’t work so hard to get the chance at a Tenancy offer, only to miss the opportunity because she was assigned a case that was near impossible to win.
Arthur was being sued by his brother for his Earldom because he appeared to be frittering away everything that the family had stood for. He was often involved with scandalous pictures and stories of wide exploits. He spent money and partied all of the time.
How would the quiet hard-working pupil barrister and the one of Europe’s wildest partiers ever be able to work together, let alone accomplish their goals; there is much more to both of them than meets the eye, that’s how!
Authur helps Gen both in court, and in overcoming a trama in her past. While Gen, helps Arthur improve his image, and generally, keep him out of trouble.
Their chemistry is hard to deny, and soon they don’t want to. In helping each other, they also fall for one another and the sparks fly!
I can’t wait to read the rest of their story in May!
Blair is amazing, as always!
I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review, but also purchased this book.
