Completely cheesy and sappy romance... but at its best! Who can help but fall in love with the perfect family of strong, handsome (and yet vastly different) brothers, sacrificial parents rescuing boys from the foster system and a sweet hometown feel? It's like candy for the brain. So read it on the beach in the sun or when you need a feel-good romance and don't over analyze it too much and it'll be perfect!

HASH(0xa54c0828) out of 5 stars Already suffered the death of two love ones, can he open his heart to love again? Aug. 5 2014
By Richard and Liz - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Ryder's Nona (grandma) died when he was 10. Fast forward a few years and he lost his young wife, Lena, to an aggressive form of cancer. Loving hurts and as the main story opens on the morning of his brother Blue's wedding to Sarah, Ryder doesn't think he can risk opening his heart again.

Tess Dailey, 27, is Ryder's paramedic partner on the ambulance. Both of them are very competent at their jobs. Tess has been secretly in love with Ryder for 6 years but until now has never given him any clue about her feelings for him. They have just been the best of friends. However, it is now getting harder to keep those feelings hidden even though she is convinced that Ryder only sees her as a friend and co-worker. Tess' family live in New Hampshire. Her mother is on her fourth marriage and has a new boyfriend. She wants Tess to come home. Her young 17 year old brother, Seth, has run away from home again. Where does he end up this time? Yes, you've guessed it!

As Ryder supports Tess, unbidden feelings begin to rise up in him which terrify and anger him. He feels like a traitor and is scared of ruining their friendship. How long will it take him to come to terms with his true feelings?

This is the second book in the series. If you read the first one, The Way Home, which I also highly recommend, you will know that the patriarch of the family, Alec Donahue (Dad), suffered a stroke. We read snippets of his continuing recovery in this book along with more from his wife, Maggie. Alec and Maggie adopted all seven of their boys from the foster care system and brought them up in the ways of the Lord encouraging them to always do their best. The entire dynamics of the Donahue family is just awesome and wholesome with Alec and Maggie demonstrating how love/marriage should look even after 40 plus years! They are not perfect but seek to live right. A true inspiration to us all even if it is fictional!

This is a CLEAN romance (just some kissing involved), based on Christian principles but not preachy. Grab your copy today! I can't wait for the next one in the series to be released. Just so you know, this book does have an ending and we get a hint of which brother is going to be featured in the next book.

HASH(0xa4bf9474) out of 5 stars Sigh.... Sept. 19 2014
By DMO - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I borrowed this book on my Kindle Unlimited account. I will be purchasing it for my permanent library in order to re-read... I don't want to risk losing it, it is that good.

This second book of the series is as good as the first. It makes you want to be a part of this wonderful, loving family, flaws and all. This story is easily read in an afternoon. I wish I could find the words to express to you how impressed I am with this author and her ability to weave together the tale of this family that has been cemented together through a common bond of pain, loss and redemption. Held together by faith and love, they share one-another's burdens and rejoice together in their triumphs. If you choose to pass this series by, you will truly be missing out on a wonderful experience.

To Ms Calhoun... I work in a difficult job as a domestic and sexual violence victim's advocate. You have captured the lifelong struggle of childhood trauma. It gladdens my heart to read your stories and imagine such wonderful, happy endings. Thank you.

HASH(0xa4f441b0) out of 5 stars ... who has ever lost someone and is afraid to love again and to anyone who has ever had to ... Aug. 6 2014

This story is relatable to anyone who has ever lost someone and is afraid to love again and to anyone who has ever had to endure "the friend zone." As I commented on 'The Way Home' I love the family dynamic, though I don't think it was as prominent in this book, it was still there and loveable. I like the tension in this story and how both character are struggling to come to terms with their pasts. They are very compatible characters. Enjoyed this read a lot. Thanks!

Will Ryder let go of his decease wife and take a risk into his future with Tess?Life is a risk so why not take a risk at love
This is a excellent book Five Star
May God bless the author
