Powerful but tender this is strong and incisive writing. There's a sense nothing's held back and that's refreshing. The pieces hover sometimes between poetry and prose but what woos you is the strong eye for meaningful details, the telling words and moments. I loved this book.

This is the third work I've read by Hynes, but is quite unique from his novels. Consisting of a series of poetic vignettes it borders on abstract, yet is entirely relatable. It paints vividly the idiosyncrasies and thoughts peculiar to those times when we are alone. I recommend it (and his novels) highly.
