My first introduction to Coney Hatch was a 45 rpm single for Monkey Bars which I played over and over again up until the November 7, 1982 show they opened for Judas Priest. Great show that night, followed by a couple other albums, and then it unraveled; but I still didn't know much about the band until now. Finished reading Carl's book yesterday and it brought back a lot of memories about not only the band, the 80's and music in general, but the book is so much more. It's about ambition, dedication, honesty, strong work ethic and a man who tried, and mostly succeeded in an industry designed to destroy those traits in people. Hard earned lessons that take a lifetime and many mentors is ultimately what this book is about, and admiration for someone who takes them in stride to move forward. The chapters on the accident, recovery and rebuilding of a life almost lost show how far determination can get you. Going seek out more of Carl's music and writing now.

A really good read.If you've ever been a fan of music, of rock , of canadian rock or had experienced any of the Canadian rock scene from the 80's,90's and quite frankly beyond.Carl is able to tell his story very well and to a point where you just can't put the book down.. For a musician....its very well written.. for a lyricist..it explains why he also pens songs as well as he does.Highly recommended if you've ever been a fan of Hatch or of Carls music...Also recommended for anyone who really needs to learn to appreciate what they have and lessons of hard work and perserverance.
Read the book.. see the guy in concert ..meet him and the heart of what Carl relays in his stories all make sense. Never been much of a reader of auto-biographies and the sort...this book is put together really nicely. Its an easy read and makes you smile along the way..Picked it up for under 20 bucks..well worth the content.. rock on! or in this case.read on!

Witty, self effacing, raw and honest.... Carl Dixon's book is a must gift for any person considering a career in music: hard slog, luck, good times. A great insight into life on the road and it's told in a way that avoids frat-house predictable tell all gossip, it's feels like a time travel back to the 80s and 90s. The challenges of recovery after the accident and discovering the truth behind relationship breakdowns were difficult in their honesty... Carl's eye being removed and the hospital chapters were spine chilling stuff. An easy read as its written in a very affable one-to-one style and that makes it hard to put down.
