About the Author

Carrie daydreamed her way through college--until they thrust a marketing degree into her hands, slapped a summa cum laude seal on the corner, and booted her out into a less-than-stellar job market. Instead of panicking at the prospect of unemployment, she used her Midwestern logic to steer into the skid and point her life in the direction she really wanted to go: writing out those daydreams --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

I read the synopsis for Strength and thought it sounded interesting, not to mention the hot guy on the cover that caught my attention, and I have a weak spot for hot guys on book covers, but what I wasn't prepared for was how much I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I couldn't help but love Rena. I mean the book begins with her creeping up to the 7th floor of her coed dorm to see her friend Aiden (this is also where the hottie on the cover lives). She has this whole silent dialogue going on with herself in her head, like she is on a secret mission (see quote below).

"I plastered myself flat against the wall, straining to distinguish footsteps from heart palpitations. He was close now; had to be. My shoes gave a little squeak as the rubber met the linoleum, and I inched toward the corner.....I hadn't been back on campus for twenty-four hours, and here I was - caught in a game of hide-and-seek with the madman. What did that say about my sanity?...."All right, Madman," I muttered peering around the edge. "Ready or not..."

See what I mean, she's a hoot. Well at this point, you might be wondering who the said "madman" is. That would also be Mr. Cover Hottie. You see, Rena had never met him, but based on "rumors" about how strange noises and groans came from his room at night, everyone was convinced he was some sort of serial killer or something. When Rena is doing her creeper thing down the hall, she runs smack into the chest of Mr. Hottie, and is flabbergasted to say the least. Surely, she thinks, this couldn't possibly be the madman. Rena feels really guilty about being a part of spreading the rumors about Wallace Blake AKA "The Madman," AKA Mr. Cover Hottie, and is determined to make things right.

I received this in exchange for an honest review.

I love Rena! She is smart, strong, funny and let's face it, a little snarky. She takes everything in stride, stuff doesn't really phase her. She accepts it, deals with it and moves on. I really like that she can fight for herself and not rely on others all the time.

Cole is a blend of both good and bad. He does bad things with good intentions. He never denies that he is a bad guy, but underneath the surface he is charming and funny. His "Brotherly" banter with Rena provided some comic relief that I found quite amusing.

Wallace is a solid guy, blames himself for things in his past but working to handle things better going forward. His gift is his curse that he struggles to control and come to terms with.

The Dynari are interesting because no two are alike. They have different attributes that make them special. They can be light or dark, in rare occasions both. Throw in the Mark of Nexus and a few humans and you wind up with an interesting twist for this genre.

I really enjoyed Carrie's writing style. It had a nice pace that kept me interested. She writes "snarky" well, which not everyone can do. One of my Faves so far this year! I would definitely read the next in the series! Well done Carrie Butler!

It's been a while since a book has kept me up until the early hours of the morning, but Strength did that...and on a weekday when I had to tutor and be up early (at least my version of early :P). I just did not want to put it down at all! I loved the story, the characters, and just the all-around emotion that this book made me feel! :D

First, I loved the introduction! Rena starts this book off by hiding from the "Madman" a.k.a. Wallace, who turns out to be super hunky, and super in some other ways, too. ;) It was definitely a fresh and exciting way to start the book since I was expecting some kind of mass murderer, and got a hunk instead. :P haha

My favourite part of Strength was the characters. I just loved Rena! I found her so easy to relate to, and I loved her fierce spirit! :D I especially loved when she would stand up to Wallace, or stand up for him. It's nice to see a main character who isn't afraid to say what she really feels and thinks. It's also awesome to see a character who sets a great example by standing up for others. I really wish I had a Rena in my life because she's amazing. :) I also LOVED Wallace! Yes, he was totally sexy, but he was also such a sweet character...and so chivalrous! ;D I always forget how sexy I find chivalry until I meet a character like Wallace...it's kind of sad how little can make me swoon. Men...you need to be more chivalrous! You'll have ALL the ladies! :P Anyway...I loved Rena and Wallace...and when you put them together, I LOVED them even more!!!! I also kind of love that Rena pretty much would just blurt out whatever she wanted to know about Wallace right to his face...it's the kind of awkward thing I would do, so thumbs up for Rena! ;D

Along with the awesome characters, the story itself was amazing!
