Author Interview:

Question: What made you want to write Stubborn Love?
Wendy: For me, I didn't set out with a goal to write an inspirational romance. In fact I had never even heard of New Adult until I started writing this story. Sometimes the story we write though it exactly what we need to and though I'd never written contemporary romance before, it was the story that needed to be told. I dealt with a lot of baggage from a previous relationship in my own life and Stubborn Love was a way for me to work through those demons.

Question: What's your favorite message in the book?
Wendy: Learning to forgive let go of the past. You can never hope for a second chance if you're still holding onto the past. That's why I made Emmie hold on so tight, even to the point where you want to strangle her sometimes.

Question: Why New York?
Wendy: The life I thought I wanted, until I found the one I needed, was in New York. They say write what you know, and I know the lure of New York City.

Question: Why would you include this in Kindle Unlimited?
Wendy: I said before this was my first romance novel. As this series progressed I feel like the storylines each grew deeper. By including Stubborn Love in Kindle Unlimited I hope new readers will give my work a try at no risk, and if they are entertained, then perhaps they will allow me to move them more by checking out the rest of the series.

Question: Will there ever be more books in the series?
Wendy: I have an outline for a story, but we will have to see what the readers want. If they want more, I am happy to give it to them.

It does follow one of the usual romance formulas- rich man, poor student with a past she's trying to get over, a bit of melodrama... but the story is still interesting and the style is quick-moving and light. A great way to kill a plane ride or an afternoon by the pool on vacation.

Great urban fantasy. This author has written a very fast paced, exciting and interesting story. Jade Crow is more than the hedge witch she pretends to be. She is also a first class nerd. When bad things begin to happen to the shape shifters around her she just has to help! Throw in a "Justice" who is also helping to solve the case. The Justice is a 6 foot 6 inch blond muscle bound investigator for the shape shifter leaders and seems to have more than a passing interest in Jade Crow.
The only problem with this book is that it is a novella and not a full length novel. It is very well written and before you know it it is done. I want more Jade damnit. Great book!

HASH(0xa1fd306c) out of 5 stars Such a great read! June 25 2013

Stubborn Love was one of those books that once I started, I couldn't put it down. The prologue sucked me in and from then on, I had to know how everything worked out. I thoroughly enjoyed this 4 star book. It had just the right amount of turmoil. Enough to keep the story flowing but not so much that my heart was stopping.

Emmie Hayes found love at a young age. But it turned out to be a love she hadn't bargained for. She finally gets the power to leave. But her husband, Ashton, is not about to let her go so easily. Three years later and Emmie is still scarred from everything that happened with Ashton. But, she is determined to move on with her life and accomplish the things that she has always wanted to do. And she is not about to let a man get in her way.

Upon arriving in New York, she meets Paige who becomes her roommate. I instantly fell in love with Paige. She is one those side characters that brings so much to the story: humor, enlightenment, and a solid friendship. It is through Paige that Emmie meets Colin. At first, Emmie is repulsed by Colin. But the aggravated man that she met on the first day is not who continues to show up. No, this guy is sweet, giving, and hardworking. But, even though Colin grows on her, she refuses to open up. Love scares Emmie and she is not about to make the same mistake she made several years ago.

“Everything I promised myself I would never do again, and here I was, departing from the reality I had accepted and losing all control. He made me feel again – my heart ached, and he consumed me in a way I never thought possible.”

Colin had me swooning immediately. I felt Colin's love for Emmie through his actions. He was so good to her and sensing the walls that she has up, wanted nothing more than to protect her. Emmie didn't make this easy for Colin. She was so afraid to open up that she kept pushing him away. I so many times wanted to reach into the book and shake some sense into her. But, at the same time, I completely understood her hesitation.

As Emmie's past life collides with her new life, things get very complicated for her and very interesting for the reader. Emmie has been through so much heartache. I was rooting for her to make it out with a happily ever after.

“It may have taken time, and it was definitely a stubborn love. But it was real. And it was ours.”

I really enjoyed Stubborn Love. To me, it was a great somewhat quick read with just the right amount of drama. Ms. Owens did a fabulous job at portraying the emotions of each character, making the story completely believable. I would definitely recommend it!

This is one of those books that you keep telling yourself, "Just one more chapter". The next thing you know it's 3am and you're done with the book!
It was a quick and fun read. I loved that it made me laugh out loud (to the dismay of my sleeping husband) and fight back tears.
Can't wait for her next book!

HASH(0xa1fd38a0) out of 5 stars Great Book July 7 2013

I really enjoyed this book. It was the perfect blend of romance and personal growth. There are times when I crave that sweet, bittersweet, emotional romance and this book is the perfect story for that. Clementine, the main female character, is still dealing with a very difficult first marriage gone horribly wrong and is now starting a new life for herself in NY. She is a very beautiful, talented woman dealing with self-confidence issues. But she is extremely likeable and the reader wants to root for her. This story is about her new life and moving on in life with a new relationship. All characters in this book are very likeable and it makes the reader want to be included in this group. I could not put the book down and I would definitely read another book by this author!

(Disclosure: I received a free copy of the book to review, however complimentary copies do not guarantee that I will review the book, and do not sway my opinion on the story.)

HASH(0xa1fd38dc) out of 5 stars Weak MCs... May 18 2015

I can overlook a lot of things and still enjoy a book. What I can't overlook is a weak main character. While Colin was disappointing, Em was a weak, annoying mess. I felt like the angst was contrived and that it even insulted Em's intelligence to have her think the way she did. Waste of time.
