From the Inside Flap

A New Beginning
Hollywood actor Dayne Matthews and Katy Hart are married and living in Bloomington, Indiana, where Dayne has found a solution to his on-camera love scenes-he wants Katy to star in his next film. Katy wins the part and is cast opposite her superstar husband. The story of a small-town girl's dream come true is too much for the press to resist, and in an effort to appease them, the couple agrees to a twelve-episode reality show. It seems like the perfect compromise, but by the time Dayne and Katy finish filming the movie, they feel cracks around the edges of their marriage. Now they face an uncertain future and possibly the end of everything that truly matters to them.

An Unforgettable Summer
The Baxter family rejoices that Ashley and Kari are both pregnant, but an ultrasound reveals that something is wrong with one of the babies. As the summer progresses, the sisters pray for a miracle while trying to face the unthinkable. It's in this trying season that they must all learn the lesson God has been trying to teach them-He is still in control, and He will be with them regardless of the outcome.

An Emotional Farewell
The Flanigans continue to draw closer to their only daughter, yet Bailey struggles to find her way amid the turmoil of adolescence. Her friendship with Cody Coleman-the young boarder staying with the Flanigans-continues to blossom in this summer after his graduation. But when Cody decides to enlist in the army, he'll have to say good-bye to the family he's come to love and the girl he'll never forget.

A story about God's unending faithfulness and the trials and triumphs of this one unforgettable summer. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

HASH(0x9fd5e024) out of 5 stars continues the Baxter saga Aug. 22 2007
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Newlyweds Dayne and Katy Matthews are enjoying their new status as much as they are teaming on a movie as he stars her with him in his next film so he can feel right about the love scenes. However, once they begin filming, the couple finds their euphoric Bloomington, Indiana existence exposed under the bright lights of Hollywood.

Ashley Baxter Blake was already in heaven when she learned she was pregnant; however she is even more elated that her best friend her sister Kari is also carrying. She dreams of their two children bonding beyond just being first cousins; she wants them to become buddies like she and Kari have been. However, Ashley's doctor provides her distressing information about the fetus she carries that makes her reconsider everything she once believed in including God.

The latest Sunrise family drama tale continues the Baxter saga although a third subplot starring their neighbors the Flanagans somewhat progresses also. The subplots rotate lead, but each is character driven. Dayne and Katy find their marriage too exposed to the demands of the media who cannot let go of the small town Midwest girl finding love with the prince of Hollywood. Ashley and Kari struggle with pregnancies especially the joys and setback that occur. Finally Bailey Flanagan and her family's border Cody Coleman begin to widen their friendship. As always in this fine series, it is the characters that matter.

HASH(0x9fb890e4) out of 5 stars Her most emotionally gripping story yet! Sept. 26 2007
By Michelle Sutton - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Karen has done it again! She's hooked me on her series. Now I've finished Summer and am awaiting the next installment in early 2008 and I'm going to be thinking about this story all the time until I find out what happens next. There are just enough loose ends to make you crave the next book and enough issues resolved that you don't want to throw the book at the wall. This story was a sad one but also very touching and healing. The author did a great job drawing me in to the story and I felt the emotion. She is truly an expert at making your heart connect with her characters. I want to be a Baxter. They have an awesome, yet realistic family with real-life problems. One of the underlying themes of this book is the importance of communication. The author shows the fallout when people close off their hearts to each other and she also shows the beauty of allowing God's will and not fighting it. This was one of the most emotionally touching stories Kingsbury has written. Highly recommended.

HASH(0x9fb89144) out of 5 stars Absolutely Incredible Aug. 29 2007
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I agree with the person who said Karen Kingsbury out did herself in this one. I was tryng to read this book slowly, because I recently discovered Christian Fiction about 4-5 months ago. I feel like God brought Karen and her "life-changing" books into my life for a definite reason. So, I was trying to read it slow, because waiting for the next book to be published just "kills" me. Since I am a new reader, I got spoiled by being introduced to the Baxters only a few months ago and I constantly read and read to catch up. Once I finished one book, I already had the other waiting on the nightstand. Now that I am caught up, I don't know how you guys do it waiting for months to see what happens next...I am only just learning to deal with it. Anyhow, when I started reading, I could have sworn I knew how it would end...I would have bet money on it if I were a bettin' woman, but to my surprise and regret, I had no idea what a ride I was in for. This has be one of the best books I have read of hers. It truly touched my soul...and my life and thinking did indeed change as a result. As far as reading it slowly, I gave that up by the third night. I stayed up until 3am, crying like I haven't cried in a very long time. Great, great, great!!!! I wish someone like FoxFaith would take on the task of turning the Baxters (from book 1 on) into a series drama for Christian and non-christians alike. These books may say "Fiction", but the situations are REAL.

HASH(0x9fb89d5c) out of 5 stars Kingsbury delivers again May 9 2011
By Renee Newman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
"Summer" continues the story of the Baxter family, of course. It really opened my eyes to the price of fame. A good Hollywood marriage is rare as this story proves. Mrs. Kingsbury doesn't always deliver "happiy ever after" in all aspects of the Baxter's lives. But, she tells a story that teaches that "All things work together for good..." according to Rom 8:28. As we lead lives fit for the Master's service, even difficult things can be endured. I love the fact that when I am reading one of Mrs. Kingsbury's novels, I know there won't be anything that will tempt my thoughts to wander in a worldly way.

For those who have followed the Baxter's w/Karen, you will not be disappointed. All three generations of these characters are fleshed out in a very believable manner.
