Review

Kathleen's story is powerful, honest, and eye-opening. She asks readers to go a bit beyond where some might feel comfortable, but if you're willing, the reward is the story of a profound healing journey. Kathleen tells us, My crisis increased my intuition, which in turn saved my life. Thank you, Kathleen. Miracles and angels are a part of our lives, so anticipate them and tune in through your quiet mind. -- Dr. Bernie Siegel, M.D., author, radio host, inspirational speaker I often see people who are going through or have just finished cancer treatment because I do their reconstructive surgeries, but I never learn the details of their everyday lives. As physicians, we don't know what it is to undergo such treatment or how important it is for people to share the experience. Surviving Cancerland is an education for both doctors and laypeople. -- Dr. Helen S. Colen, MD, FACS, PC, Clinical Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery, Department of Surgery, NYU Medical Center, NY A must-read for anyone challenged by a crisis experience or who has a loved one suffering from cancer. Through Kathleen we experience the combined healing modalities of conventional chemotherapy, radiation, and an array of integrative medicines. -- Dr. Ursula Martens, Director, Psychical Research and Development Foundation I often see people who are going through or have just finished cancer treatment because I do their reconstructive surgeries, but I never learn the details of their everyday lives. From the Inside Flap

When Kathleen O'Keefe-Kanavos discovered a pea-sized lump in her breast, she did what any sensible woman would do: She went to see her doctor, who assured her that she was in good health and that the lump was nothing but a fibrous tumor and posed no threat. Kathleen was unconvinced, particularly in light of the fact that her mother had recently died of cancer. In a dream that night, Kathleen saw her spiritual guide/guardian angel who took her hand, placed it on her breast, and said, "You have cancer right here. Feel it? Go back to your doctor tomorrow. Don't wait for an appointment." So began a medical odyssey that would take Kathleen and her loved ones on a seemingly endless roller-coaster ride of fear and frustration, hope and healing and profound spiritual growth.
