HASH(0x9ec88654) out of 5 stars Surviving Evidence is Superb in Eloquence April 20 2014
By Charles Reichenthal - Published on
‘Surviving Evidence’ is an astoundingly good book. Essential, even, especially for anyone who wants a captivating and nearly poetic description of a real-life malevolent haunting. The Author, Chris DiCesare, was the victim of a haunting back in 1985 whilst in college near Buffalo, NY that nearly defined his life, and came close to ruining it. He was a track star, and far removed from the idea of ‘ghosts’, though this was of no matter to whatever was indeed terrorizing and haunting him, years and years before talking about ghosts became somewhat of a cool thing. This was such a daunting experience for him that one of the only witnesses to it left school and to this day refuses to speak of it, and the only other witness documented the experience for them both. Yet the way the Author Chris DiCesare speaks of the experiences for this book is so emotionally descriptive and raw you feel your heart beating as though it is his, his experience is such a first-hand account you feel you are in that room, living his life, and it touches you deeply and profoundly. Such wonderful writing, the words woven together with finesse and eloquence it feels like a Shakespeare novel you can understand and full identify with, regardless of if you've ever confronted ‘ghosts’ or not. Best of all is what he takes away from the experience, with a sense of forgiveness that exemplifies character, grace and humility. This isn't just a ‘ghost story’, it is the epitome of the human experience, written with such elegance it could be a textbook for science, psychology, paranormal studies or honors English…though it reads not like a ‘textbook’, it reads like a slice of life. Easily one of the finest books ever written about such experience, definitely worth reading at least once. If you feel you have not been impressed by a book in a while, or really want to know what being an unwitting or unwilling participant in a real-life horror feels like, there is no better description of that or no more impressive book than “Surviving Evidence” by Chris DiCesare.

HASH(0x9ec88a5c) out of 5 stars Exquisite April 22 2014
By Mara Katria - Published on
"Surviving Evidence: Memoir of an Extreme Haunting" is categorically exquisite and among the absolute best books, not just of the paranormal genre ... but among the best books of all time. It sounds too good to be true, but here is the thing ... when you read J. R. R. Tolkien (for awesome example), he takes you there in the brilliance of innocence and with the weight of terrible reality. Yet, that reality is a symbolic one -- one that I so much appreciate, by the way. And, some paranormal books written about true events have the grit of realism, but they often feel overtly documentary; and while that can be a strength, I would like to have the Truth *and* the Poetry. "Surviving Evidence: Memoir of an Extreme Haunting" provides that and so much more. The prose of this text is beautiful, honest and cascading like waves on the nighttime ocean. There are waves that reflect the surface, and then there are waves that are at first hidden in ominous, unknowable depths (where we fear monsters be) that later rise up with the sands from below -- revealing thought-provoking meaning, connection and emotion. The genuineness of this book grips you nearly every moment. There is a continual awareness that you are with this poor young man, trying to find a way to survive the tumult that rocks the paradigm he's built over his then entire lifetime. This is, by the bye, beautifully adorned with a gorgeous and crushingly foreboding (yet lovingly optimistic) foreword by Mr. Di Cesare's 1985 dorm-mate and friend, J. Jeff Ungar. Ungar bore witness to what Di Cesare underwent, which is largely the topic of this book: the C2D1 Haunting ... perhaps the most documented haunting ever ... a series of occurrences that would be with him always and change the course of how he'd relate to the world and label him: 'Ghost Boy of Geneseo.' Nevertheless, the memoir will likely leave most readers feeling great hope. That hope – and perhaps this goes without saying -- is a testament to how he dealt with such trauma: with strength, kindness and empathy. This book is nothing short of a gift to read for this reader, and I believe countless others as time goes by. Tolkien will likely always be my favorite writer, but it is beyond wonderful to add Mr. Chris Di Cesare to such a rare and magnificent fellowship of favorites. Bravo!

HASH(0x9ee3e618) out of 5 stars Prepare to be inspired May 6 2014
By Michael Todd Lewis - Published on
This memoir is a captivating and engrossing account of the C2D1 Haunting. There are momentous events described, from the scary and the painful to the healing and the spiritual. There are also personal details woven throughout which bring us closer to the author: family life, college hi-jinks, athletic endeavors, and the inner perspectives of Chris Di Cesare from his youth through his nineteenth year -- the year of the haunting. In this account the reader will encounter the authentic reactions of a community of college-age friends who suffer a series of mysterious and increasingly traumatizing events. How would I have reacted in that surreal time and place? Would I have mustered the courage and strength of character to persevere when my world was collapsing? Ultimately, I find myself truly moved by this book and inspired by the actions of those who survived this ordeal, and I hope that you will be inspired, too.

HASH(0x9ec88ad4) out of 5 stars Great Book! April 20 2014
By Deborah DeRousse - Published on
Surviving Evidence is so well written that the reader actually feels like a part of this story. Thanks to J. Jeff Ungar, many of the events that happened in the C2D1 dorm were documented and recorded, so there is proof that it all really did happen. The detail in this book is amazing, right down to the thoughts he had, notes that were written, and pictures. What Christopher went through had to be very terrifying. It was impossible for me to put the book down. I found it so interesting that he was able to give this spirit a name and see it in detail. I see Christopher DiCesare as a very brave man, not only did he survive this haunting, he went through it all of the emotion again in order to share his story with others who may be going through the same thing. I highly recommend this book and give it an A+!!

HASH(0x9ec88e58) out of 5 stars A Must For Paranormal Fans! Aug. 5 2015
By Magcat - Published on
I had the honor of meeting Chris DiCesare at a recent paranormal event. Chris is an engaging speaker and after hearing him describe how this incident began, I was anxious to read his book and discover the entire story. I began the book with the intention of reading about an encounter with the paranormal. What I found was a tale written by someone who generously shared his personal life experiences. It was like reading two stories at once. The paranormal portion was exciting – and I love unraveling a mystery – but I found myself looking forward to Chris revealing the next part of his very personal journey. It's obvious that even at a young age, it was Chris' strength of character that saw him through a terrifying experience. A thrilling and inspiring read!
