Product Description

This summer, it's all about having more fun and less stress. Period.

Ah, summer vacation. Sunshine and iced tea. Long, sultry evenings. The kids riding their bikes until the streetlights blink on. Pure bliss.

Then, ten minutes later . . . "Mom, I'm bored."

You bite your tongue to keep from yelling, "You know what I'd give to have three months of nothing to do?!" Instead, you calmly suggest an activity that will be rejected out of hand. Then repeat. Sometimes hourly.

But summer doesn't have to be that way. You and your kids can have a fun, relaxing, and fulfilling summer together with just a little preparation and prayer. Kathi Lipp makes summer as easygoing as it should be with ideas such as
· taking trips to the farmers' market (where shopping gets done at the same time!)
· kid-focused cooking (that actually gets meals on the table)
· assigning summer chores
· planning mom-only activities
· art activities even moms will love

She also gives you short, to-the-point prayers to keep your heart connected to God and your family and includes helpful links to free downloads of a summer calendar, a cookbook for kids, and more.

Ready for a summer the whole family can enjoy? With her signature wit and hard-earned wisdom, Kathi shows you the way.

Kathi Lipp is the author of Praying God's Word for Your Husband, Praying God's Word for Your Life, and I Need Some Help Here! She is a busy conference and retreat speaker who reaches thousands of women each year and has been a guest on numerous national radio programs, including Focus on the Family. She and her husband have four children and live in California. Learn more at www.kathilipp.com.

HASH(0xa0d5d6b4) out of 5 stars Surviving Summer Vacation is full of great tips but not a checklist June 12 2014

Kathi Lipp gives such fun ideas and recipes in her book to make summer fun and manageable. And by reminding us moms to not do too much. She says that if we are constantly filling the calendar with stuff we will get burned out. But if we add in things we enjoy as well it helps it go smoother. I also love that she adds in downloadable calendars, bucket lists, chore chart, scavenger hunt and even a kids cookbook!
Most of all, She's real! Yes real! She admits at the beginning she's a 'starter.' Aren't we all, feels good to know I'm not the only one with things started but not finished. I am pledging to finish this summer off just as strong as I started! She gives great tips on teaching the kids responsibility and not just doing it all for them as well as lots of yummy recipes that I am ready to try! We are even growing lots of the same things in our garden right now! And have added the Popsicle Garden Markers (downloadable in the book) to the craft list to do soon! Since It's a guessing game out there right now. And have made a copy of the craft/imagination bucket list she suggests to fill the containers I just got for just that! It's always nice to be able to tell the kids grab a bin and have at it sometimes.
This book is perfect, even for the moms who think they already have it all together! We will be adding lots of her ideas to our fun list!
HASH(0xa09e6df8) out of 5 stars It is a great summer resource with lots of ideas for family fun April 13 2015

Given To Me For An Honest Review

Surviving Summer Vacation by Kathi Lipp is a book we should all have. It is a great summer resource with lots of ideas for family fun. It can also be used for summer school and vacation bible school. You will find a lot of fun ideas, activities and recipes to use. These can be adjusted to what you need. There are some great downloadables to use. They are calendars, bucket lists, chore chart, scavenger hunt and even a kids cookbook. There are some religious references within the reading but they shouldn't offend anyone. This is a fantastic book for any teacher to have, any parent to have to keep children busy during the summer or even bible school teachers to have. I gave this book 5 stars but wish I could give it more. I highly recommend this book to everyone. I look for more from Kathi Lipp.
HASH(0xa0cd5c48) out of 5 stars Some good tips I hope to Implement this Summer. March 1 2015

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I don't read a lot of nonfiction, but as a mom of 3 hyperactive and impulsive kids, this one just sounded like a must read.

My hope was that I would glean some useful tips for dealing with my rambunctious brood.

Be warned that this one is Christian-based and includes prayers and scripture verses. If this offends you, don't read this book.

I love that at the end of each chapter, there is a link to a worksheet for something discussed in that chapter. I may have to buy this one just so I can access those worksheets on my computer and print them out.

I found this book informative and full of useful tips. I just wish some of them were move detailed.
HASH(0xa073c138) out of 5 stars Non-guilt-producing summer resource May 20 2014

The most valuable thing about this little book is that it's not a check-list or a how-to. It's a summer idea resource.

If, on the third day of summer vacation, your kids are bored, consult this little book. Put your finger on any chapter and...Voila! Kathi has an idea for you! But don't worry about doing the activity "right." Just enjoy the experience, no matter how it turns out.

The second most valuable thing is that it's short. Since you have T-minus 2 days until school's out, you can read it tonight, or tomorrow night. If that doesn't work out, have your kids read it aloud while you make lunch. Then count the minutes toward their summer reading goal. See? Two birds with one stone. You've got this!
