What romance reader doesn't love, of course, but romance? Add in suspense, action, emotional intensity - as well as a few secrets along the way - and you've got a book that will have you late returning back to work from your lunch break - like what happened to me. Kennie delivers in this Harlequin Intrigue rich in high stakes and passion for Erin and Josh and. I was hooked right from the beginning and loved the twists and turns their story took, finishing in a happy ending with a few surprises that left me satisfied and wanting more. I'll be watching for more from this seasoned writer! Kudos to her for a job well done.

HASH(0xa593f2f4) out of 5 stars Good book Feb. 6 2016
By S. Frank - Published on
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Good story made even more interesting by the unusual setting. Erin has been on the run for months, trying to stay ahead of hit men out to kill the only witness to a brutal murder. Josh is the CIA operative who has been sent to find her and bring her to safety. The story opens with Josh closing in on her, as he identifies the body of the last person known to have spent any time with her. When he gets word of Erin's current location, he knows there isn't any time to waste. He also knows that he can't just show up and expect her to go with him willingly.

Erin is tired of running but knows that she has no choice. She feels fairly confident in her current hiding place, until her car explodes as another school employee borrows it. Feeling guilty about Daniel's death, and terrified that she'll be found before she can get away, she flees without her usual detailed planning. She heads for a remote island resort, hoping for a few days to make plans for her next step.

Erin is a very intelligent and resourceful young woman. She is always watchful and has learned that she can't trust anyone. When she first encounters Josh, her impression is of a rather nerdy tourist, one who is rather attractive. Though she tries to keep her distance, she finds herself drawn to him and lets down her guard just a little bit. Josh is used to working undercover and his persona gives him a chance to build up a little bit of a rapport with Erin. However, he is constantly in touch with his superiors and knows that the bad guys are closing in fast.

Things start to get really exciting when the first attack comes. Suddenly the geeky tourist is someone a lot more intense and focused than Erin suspected. She isn't sure if she's really ready to trust him, but it looks like he's her only chance to get off the island alive. It seems like every hour brings a new challenge to their plans, from transportation problems and an increased number of pursuers to betrayal from unexpected sources. The final stretch was really intense, and kept me wondering what was going to happen next. The resolution was a bit of a surprise, but I liked the way it turned out.

I liked the way that their relationship developed. Though both had hidden their real selves, as they spent time together the masks began to drop. I liked the way that Josh had a good idea of Erin's capabilities from searching for her all those months. Once he met her it didn't take long for her to become more than just an assignment. I also liked the way he sensed that there was more to her decision to run than he had originally thought, and that he was able to get her to tell him the truth. I liked the way that Erin saw Josh as someone she could trust. She didn't expect to fall for him, and didn't think there was any future in it for them, thanks to what she knew of the way he lived his life. The ending was pretty sweet, with a bit of humor added in for good measure.

HASH(0xa59e14b0) out of 5 stars The setting of the story was particularly interesting Feb. 19 2016
By Susan-128 - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I have read a few of this authors books and I was not disappointed with this one. Like the others that I have read, it gets right into the story and was captivating from the start. As a reader that tends to lose interest in a story fairly quickly, this one tended to keep me engaged. But I suppose this is a trait of any good book and not just a bonus for readers like me.

The setting of the story was particularly interesting and the author does a great job of laying the scene.
The story its self builds very nicely along with the characters. The main characters perceptions of each other (Erin and Josh) also have a nice evolution and changes well.

All in all, I enjoyed this read and I got the feeling that the author had an equal amount of fun writing it.
HASH(0xa56283c8) out of 5 stars Not a great example of Harlequin Intrigue June 16 2016

First let me just say that I LOVE Romantic Suspense and have read HUNDREDS of Harlequin Intrigue books. I am not a fan of "the big secret/deception" plotlines, but since that is not really my problem with the book, I feel like I can review it honestly and without bias. My only opinion in regard to the secret/deception, was that I never understood the reason for it. **SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT* *Even assuming that the original deception was necessary, after the h knew who the H was he continued to hide other aspects of the case for no discernible reason - like the fact that her sister back home was now in protective custody. To my mind that would have relieved the h's mind, but he kept hiding things like that from her without an explanation as to why it was necessary (it wasn't!). Also, her secret that was referenced on the back cover was never a secret at all. The H knew all along** END SPOILER ALERT**: This was a great story idea with lots of potential. I liked that the H was so impressed with the h's success at staying off the grid although I also got tired of hearing that she "couldn't take any more", had reached her limit" ect without that ever becoming an issue or affecting their choices. And I liked that there was a lot of action in the book. My biggest problem was that most of the story, including the action scenes, was told to me in the character's thoughts. They actually talked to each other very little. Consequently, I was never really invested in their relationship and the action never really grabbed my attention. There was a lot of action, but I didn't feel involved or really worried about the H and h. The suspense just didn't develop and the mystery was resolved before it was ever really much of a question. As a result, I skimmed the last third of the book, once I realized that nothing was going to change.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
HASH(0xa625e054) out of 5 stars The plot idea was great... Jan. 19 2016

Format: Mass Market Paperback
I had a little tough time connecting with this story, the plot and the characters. The setup was brilliant, but the case took so long to open up and explain to the reader, that I was a bit lost a couple times.
Another thing with the characters, as they spend so much time and energy to pretend to be someone else than they really were, I felt like I didn't get to know the true person behind the undercover persona.
The caves were fascinating, the author obviously knew them, knew what she was talking about, that came clear.
There were some confusing moments with the action, they were in a jungle, no, at the waterfront, no, in an alley running for their lives... You really have to pay attention to keep up with Erin and Josh.
The chaotic fear, the concern about the future, and angst for Sarah, Erin's sister, are all palpable and obvious. Erin is smart, she holds the terror inside, and is doing anything and everything she can to survive. But the hunt for her is at the point, she can't stay alive without Josh's help. But can he be trusted, can anyone be trusted at this point?
Josh and Erin get along, at least the personas they pretend to be. But I didn't get any chemistry or attraction between them, when the heat comes up suddenly between them, it didn't feel natural, or real. But as they get to be themselves, with each other, their personalities change, and there's the little spark, but is it enough, that you have to determine yourself.
I liked the setting of the story, and the idea of the manhunt. Some of the details of suspense were brushed over, that I would have liked more fine points with. Josh and Erin made a good team as trying to escape the danger. Their getaway from the caves was intense. Overall, for me the story came up to

HASH(0xa55e681c) out of 5 stars Full of action and danger, along with the romance June 18 2016

I have read several of Ryshia Kennie’s books in the past but never one published by Harlequin. Suspect Witness is part of the Intrigue line which this book certainly fits. Ryshia Kennie brings her vivid exotic locations descriptions (I felt as if I was right there with the characters!), suspense filled plot and strong memorable characters to Suspect Witness.

The story begins several months into the plight of a US teacher who is now on the run. This beginning was very effective in catching my attention and holding it throughout. The CIA operative, Josh, is a good guy and I kept thinking Erin was fortunate that he was the one to help her. They go through some scary escapes with surprising betrayals making this a great read. The action takes the main focus with the romance secondary. I like that in Ms. Kennie’s writing since survival is crucial to the story.

Erin and Josh are well-developed characters; tough, strong and stubborn. The villains are a bit of a mystery with the assassins kept in the shadows. I did have one unanswered question about a picture that Erin was looking for at one point in the story. I didn’t remember it from earlier then there is nothing else about it. I guess at some point I thought maybe Erin and Josh would mention it in their conversations. It only stood out to me because it caused a major turning point in the story. However, overall it is a thrilling read.
