Product Description

After five years spent proving his innocence in a gambling scheme, Jimmy Doyle Walker is back on the field for the Washington Diplomats. Given one season to demonstrate he can still contribute to the team, he guards his secrets well, knowing exposure of his unorthodox sex life would create a career-ending scandal. When he meets Evelyn Gardner, she tests his resolve, and he risks everything to show her the delights to be found in his arms.

Living day-to-day as a switchboard operator, Evelyn Gardner loathes the sexual cravings that cost her the home and family she’d always dreamed of. When she meets Jimmy Doyle Walker, the sexy first baseman for the Washington Diplomats, at a church revival meeting, he challenges her beliefs and her expectations. Determinedly, he seduces her through erotic letters, sensual gifts, and sexual play, until she dares dream she can have satisfaction and respectability.

Too bad her father, the preacher, seems set on ruining not only their reputations but also their lives.

HASH(0xa778cea0) out of 5 stars A well written story with intriguing characters and a love that knows no bounds this is one you do not want to miss. July 23 2015

Sometimes it is so hard to write a review for a book that just engulfs you and that is Suspended Game by Roz Lee. Honestly I don't read very many historical romances and while some might not consider this historical it takes place in 1940 so to me it qualifies because it takes place before I was born. I wasn't sure what to expect in this book other than from the cover it was obvious it featured some BDSM elements and from the synopsis it was about a professional baseball player back after a scandal that banned him from the game and a woman who had lost her family because she didn't fall into line with her father's preaching. What I got was a well developed, well written story of two people who meet in the most unlikely place and spend time learning not only about each other but themselves all while exploring their darkest desires. Suspended Game features everything I look for in a romance; an intricate plot, characters I want to know and I care about, interesting dialog, just enough drama to make it interesting without bogging down the story, steamy intimate scenes and a relationship that develops out of respect, communication and deep feelings. Author Roz Lee offered all of that and more in this book making it one hell of a story.

Jimmy Doyle Walker is happy to be back playing baseball after he was cleared of charges of illegal betting and he plans on letting nothing get in his way of playing the best he can during this year so he'll get offered a contract to play out the rest of his career. Meeting Evelyn Gardner as a revival of all things should tell him to stay far away but there is something about her that makes him decide to take a chance even if it is obvious to him something in her past is holding her back.

There was so much I loved about this story including that fact that Jimmy Doyle was a gentleman to the core but he was also a dominate man. It was so interesting watching him with Evelyn from the start and guessing she not only was interested in him as a man but also that she had submissive tendencies. As this was a time when people didn't discuss sex and were taught in most churches that there was only one reason for sex I was fascinated by this story. I admired Jimmy for not only seeing things in Evelyn she wouldn't admit at first but also for taking a chance and enticing her through his letters and gifts. I'm not going to lie; I LOVED the aspect of him wooing her with his naughty thoughts and explicit instructions through his letters. (Think long distance domination.) Yes at times the verbiage made me giggle but I also had to remind myself that back then language was not as coarse as it is today especially at the beginning of a relationship. Despite that this book was H-O-T with a lot of self love going on and when they did finally get together it was scorching, not to mention fascinating as Jimmy showed Evelyn that her needs were not sinful or bad but beautiful and natural.

I could go on and on and on about my love for this book but I'm going to stop and just say, please buy it and read it. If you appreciate well written romances that cover all the bases then Suspended Game is a home run; a well written story with intriguing characters and a love that knows no bounds this is one you do not want to miss.

HASH(0xa778cf54) out of 5 stars Plenty of substance with heat Oct. 16 2015

Baseball and apple pie are among America's icons. What happens when you add a twist of kink can be found in SUSPENDED GAME by Roz Lee.

The year is 1936; Jimmy Doyle Walker is returning to baseball after being cleared of illegal betting charges. He's trying to find his way back into the game he loves, but his path is not easy.

Evelyn Gardner is a switchboard operator with painful secrets. She's all but suppressed every bit of sexual desire until an encounter with Jimmy Doyle gives her a fresh perspective. And when that handsome man starts writing letters and sending notes, those needs start waking up.

What follows is an absolutely breathtaking story set in a time when society had a much stricter sense of rules. To have a story with BDSM elements with that setting is a stroke of pure genius.

Not only is the baseball part of the story appealing to non-baseball fans, but the dynamic between Jimmy Doyle and Evelyn is fascinating.

From start to finish, this was a superb book. I was especially impressed with how well the author was able to stick with the time period, complete with baseball games on the radio and tent revivals.

Even the plot twist, which was completely unexpected, was something readers typically don't encounter. There's plenty of substance to go along with the heat in this story.

HASH(0xa7ae9270) out of 5 stars Exquisite Reviews - Suspended Game Oct. 19 2015

What can I say…? I usually HATE and I mean HATE historicals not because the books aren’t well written or the author is not able to produce great work. It’s because I can’t connect with the time period at all….

Now that my spiel/disclaimer is over I can say that I enjoyed this story very much. I think because it was set in the late 1930’s I was able to connect with the story and it’s characters more.

I love Jimmy and I was a huge cheerleader for him throughout the book, this book took over my life for half a day and putting it down didn’t help at all. Evelyn and Jimmy embark on a love story that will give you everything you are looking in a romance. The BDSM elements are done well and provide a perfect climax (no pun intended… ok maybe a little ) to the plot twist within the book.

HASH(0xa7b04948) out of 5 stars A fantastic book by an awsome author. Aug. 5 2015

This is a really hot read. If you think BDSM is the newest thing, this book will show you that it has been alive and kicking for a long time. Jimmy Doyle Walker is Hot! (no that isn't a typo, he is hot with a capital "H").

Who knew getting dragged to a revival meeting, would definitely be an answer to his prayers. Her name is Evelyn, and the moment he spots her, he knows. She is his from that moment and she goes quite willingly. Heck, if she didn't I was more than willing to replace her. Well of course that could only happen if I could crawl inside the book.

Hot but sweet at the same time.

Jimmy Doyle Walker has just returned to baseball after being out for five years for suspicion of betting. He was allowed to return because there was no proof he was involved but not everyone believes he is innocent. He has to put up with bad calls from the umpires, getting hit with wild pitches, and disrespect from his fellow teammates.
There would really be trouble if people knew what kind of farm Jimmy Doyle worked on while he was off the baseball fields, and still visits. It was on this farm that he learned that two consenting people can do anything they like as long as nobody gets hurt unless they want to, And he taught a very special woman, there is nothing wrong with wanting to do the things that they do, and they are not alone.
