Relive the adventure and magic in one of the most beloved motion pictures of all-time, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, from Academy Award-winning director Steven Spielberg. Captivating audiences of all ages, this timeless story follows the unforgettable journey of a lost alien and the 10-year-old boy he befriends. Join Elliot (Henry Thomas), Gertie (Drew Barrymore) and Michael (Robert MacNaughton) as they come together to help E.T. find his way back home. Now digitally remastered with enhanced picture and sound for its 30thAnniversary,E.T. The Extra-Terrestrialis “one of the great American films” (Leonard Maltin) that forever belongs in the hearts and minds of audiences everywhere.
Steven Spielberg's 1982 hit about a stranded alien and his loving relationship with a fatherless boy (Henry Thomas) struck a chord with audiences everywhere, and it furthered Spielberg's reputation as a director of equally strong commercial sensibilities and classical leanings. Henry Thomas gives a strong, emotional performance as E.T.'s young friend, Robert MacNaughton and Drew Barrymore make a solid impression as his siblings, and Dee Wallace is lively as the kids' mother. The special effects almost look a bit quaint now with all the computer advancements that have occurred since, but they also have more heart behind them than a lot of what we see today. --Tom Keogh

It's an improvement on the previous release but not the best of the 4K releases. I found that Fifth Element 4K visuals were better than this release a but of a surprise since this is a Spielberg movie. Overall I am happy with this purchase.
I had been searching for a long time for this movie to show to my 6 year old grandson, and was excited to find it on Amazon.ca. And it didn't disappoint - my grandson laughed through most of the DVD and wants to watch it again. It is a nice change to find a wholesome movie that a child can watch and which can be equally enjoyed by adults. When my children were young they loved this film, and it hasn't lost it's magic over the years!
The Blu transfer looks and sounds great, but if you are buying the film with the intention of getting benefit of the digital copy, be aware of the following when using the code through iTunes Canada :
HD - 4.75GB, iTunes Extra - 1.83GB
Code until - 30 April 2017
They have just cleaned it up for Blu Ray from the original version it seems.
There may be a little bit of CG enhancements, but they remain that, enhancements.
When I first saw it, it was my girlfriends copy which had all of the awkward CG updates like when Eliot flashes the light on him in the brush for the first time, this version does not have it that.
They also don't have the whole "guns replaced with walkie talkies" thing in this one.
Just all and all a great release, it looks fantastic and wasn't overtaken by updates.
Buy this edition, you won't be sorry!
