18 ONLY. This title is part of a new series (The Men By Numbers Series) BUT can be read as a standalone.

Ten years old I fell in love.
Ten years was the price of that love.
Ten years later our world’s re-collide.

My brother, Jonah, was possessive when it came to the things he owned. This unfortunately included the people in his life. The forbidden love between his best friend and me was just that… forbidden. Our families were from different walks of life, and as a sheriff’s daughter, being with a Moore’s kid would never be tolerated. To my parents, their son and Dalton Moore were on different paths, and their friendship would end as soon as college began, but it was my brother who had a craving for trouble. He was always looking for danger, committing petty crimes and getting away with it because Dalton would take the fall, blackening his already stained name. When Jonah found out we broke the rules by loving each other, his actions impacted us all causing immeasurable suffering. Betrayal comes with a debt, and it would be paid by all of us. One with their heart, one with their mind, and one would pay in blood.

This was a very fast paced and intense story! The characters are well developed and realistic. The story of Alex and Dalton is full of twists and turns! This young love that their families conspired to break apart finally gets the happy ending that they deserve! This book will suck you in and not release you until the last page!

Ker Dukey is one of my favorite authors so when I saw the teasers for Ten and that is was a forbidden 'my brother's best friend' type of book I was like...WOW!! Ker has this way of putting an amazing spin on any subject leaving her own special mark, in her own special way. I loved the way she wrote this book in more than one point-of-view as she usually does, it is so much easier to keep up to speed once the story starts going and unraveling.

Alex meets Dalton (Ten) as a child when he moves in across the street with his uncle. Their family is like the black sheep in the community with illegal activities and just an all around bad reputation. Dalton becomes friends with Alex's older brother, Jonah. Jonah has a weird fixation with his sister so no one is allowed to be around her, except of course, for Jonah's best friend. But no one would ever be good enough for Alex in her brother's eyes so this Alex-Dalton love fest would never have worked out in Jonah's eyes. Dalton also has a bad habit of always taking the blame for Jonah when he acts out and lands into trouble. This is bad for Dalton because one day he lands himself into a bad spot which takes ten years of his life by being sent to prison. This pretty much ruins Alex causing her to move away and live her life on hold.

When Alex's father, the ex-sherrif, passes away she has to go back to put his affairs in order and sell the family home. However, the town has changed since she was last home and she is not really welcomed with open arms. Dalton now lives a life of crime with skanky women at his beck and call, and when Alex finds herself in the wrong place one of those women beat her. She is only too happy to send Alex on her way as Dalton lets it happen.

I so wanted this book as soon as I read the blurb and saw teasers. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book. I love stories that have twists and turns and leaves you guessing and this story did not disappoint! There were a few predictable moments but there were also OMG moments. I wanted to devour this book but I found myself holding off reading it. Not because I couldn’t get into it but because I knew it would leave me wanting more and I wouldn’t be able to put it down. And I was right, once I started reading I could NOT put it down and ended up staying up to 4:30 a.m. asking WTF. Hubby kept rolling over asking me if I was “still” reading.

I loved that we got both POV’s. Dalton (a.k.a. Ten) was easy to love in Alex’s memories but as the man before her not so much. Too much time passed and life has left him bitter and wanting revenge. Alex loved Dalton from the moment she set eyes on him at the tender age of ten. He soon became best friends with her brother Jonah. Jonah was always possessive of his sister but soon learned to trust Dalton with her. Dalton felt a connection to Alex from the moment he met her. He grew up in a horrible way and Alex was there to bring light into his life. He needed her as much as she needed him. But family and circumstances tear the two apart. Can they find their way back to each other after all this time or is it too late? Is the hurt they both gave to each other too much?

Once again, this author delivered a fantastic story. The writing was great. You really felt for this couple. You felt the struggle they endured. There were parts where you wanted to reach into the book and slap the crap out of them, shake them and say “Open your eyes!!! And for the love of God, just listen to one another!”….see, great writing.

Another 5 stupendous stars for this latest book from Author Ker Dukey. Loved it as I love all her work and although this book is not as dark as her previous works it still has plenty of surprises in store.
Alex and Dalton have been close friends since the age of ten, he is her brother Joanah's best friend and older than her but that doesn't stop them having intense feelings for one another and their secret love kept from both their families can only bring heartache.
Fast forward ten years and things are very different. I loved the angst, the romance, the fear, the surprises and all the different characters Ker brings to this story. Some you will love and some you will hate and that's what kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through this book. Their love and predicament, Alex's brother, their families all adds to the confusion, and pain, yep love is never straight forward. This book is full of surprises which is just how I like it and come to expect when you read a Ker Dukey book. The flashbacks were interesting, I really enjoyed that and the character Six had me cheering on and my heart melting. I read it straight through in four and a half hours and couldn't put it down, yes it was that good !!! This is only book one in the series and I can't wait for more from this amazing lady !!!
