HASH(0xa621ccb4) out of 5 stars Wide Variety of South Sea Stories Feb. 25 2016
By Tim Field - Published on
Format: Paperback
I had only read Jack London's animal novels and stories of the Yukon before reading this collection of South Sea tales written later in London's writing career. The stories range wildly from gruesome tales of lepers to retellings of Hawaiian myths to stories of colonial oppression. I was impressed with London's sympathy and understanding for the native peoples of these islands, their culture and their mistreatment. These tales encompass a variety of emotions and tones, from the tragic to funny shaggy dog stories. Highly recommended.
