Cute, simple, but several of the pages I could easily relate to - thinking of my grandson!

HASH(0xa749b960) out of 5 stars Not so entertaining for my very young children May 27 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I read a different Scott Gordon book to my kids and they absolutely loved it. It was great for their level and very entertaining for all of us. This one, however, was a bit over their heads and had a little bit of silly content that I didn't like exposing to my toddler and preschooler. I was really disappointed in this one. Gordon is very clever though, so I'm still a fan and will still be looking out for more of his fun children's books.

HASH(0xa749bbac) out of 5 stars Instructions Recieved; Now I Need My Monster July 18 2012
By Nancy Mauerman - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This is a real instruction manual because it has logical (but not easy to follow) rules. I bet all kids have heard their parents complain about this situation. It has arrows pointing to various part of a monster giving further pieces of information which any child can see are extremely important to safety and are very funny. Terms are used that ring familiar and put a child reader in a parent role like, "Once you buy them one thing, they'll expect the entire store." The dry humor builds page after page using some big words and simple ideas. Aren't unfamiliar terms always part of any instruction manual?
This might be just the thing to get a reluctant reader to love books! I write and illustrate children's books and love to play with words and introduce new ones by immediately explaining them and using them again in the flow of the story soon, as in the series 'Leafman Attacks' Leafman Attacks: 1 Leafman, Who's Beefman?.

My three kids ages 9, 6 and 4 all LOVED this book! Was a fun and simple read for a bedtime story and one they can reread to each other on their own!

HASH(0xa749be64) out of 5 stars My own pet monster July 16 2012
By Cynthia - Published on Amazon.com

I got halfway through the book before handing it over to my 11-yr old daughter to read. The first thing she asked was if we were getting a pet monster. She laughed out loud as she read it.

My grandchildren have really enjoyed all of Scott Gordon's book. They are cute, colorful and funny enough to keep restless little ones attention long enough to make them sleepy.
