Product Description

SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di Macro Lens 1:1 with internal motor Tamron's 90mm macro lens, often referred to as "the portrait macro" and loved by photographers all over the world, is now reborn as a Di lens that is perfect for use with both film and digital cameras. This is a true 1:1 macro lens, meaning the image on the sensor is the same size as the object being photographed. The Tamron 90mm macro lens utilizes a focus ring push/pull motion to engage/disengage the AF clutch - making it simple to change to manual focus without taking your eye off your subject. I bought this lens in January 2009, used it quite a bit for the first year and then it sat with my gear with only occasional use since then. It has always given me good service for macro work, particularly with a tripod, rail and strobe. I took it out this week for early spring flower shots, and am disappointed to find the autofocus switch (slides between manual focus and auto focus) doesn't always engage. I have always depended on it for fine focussing after framing and manually getting the focus "close". Now I have to slide the switch back and forth a few times for AF to engage. I have cleaned the contacts with the camera body (Nikon D90), and experimented endlessly with sliding the switch different ways. It seems to work best if I slightly twist the focus barrel as I slip it from MF to AF, with practice this might save the lens. Otherwise it's back to Nikkor....

Of course the Tamron 6-year warranty ended a year ago...

I didn't use the lens much initially, I purchased it in Dec 2014 for a 7-yr old Nikon DSLR. The camera has NEVER given me any problems. After beginning a photography course a little over a year later in Jan of 2016, I started using this lens a lot, and quickly started having power problems with my camera and batteries ( I have 5 different batteries, all in great condition, all of them gave me problems ), it was looking like DBS ( Dead battery Syndrome ). I took the camera to a licensed Nikon dealer and paid to have it fully serviced, they found nothing wrong with the camera. If I use any Nikon lens, the camera is fine, as soon as I attach this Tamron lens, I start having power problems. $460+ after shipping and taxes and I can't even use the lens. Don't waste your money on 3rd party trash. Save up and invest in Nikon/Nikor gear, off-brand isn't worth the "savings".

I've only used this lens for a few shots now, but I love it. I've only used it for a few garden shots so far but am looking forward to doing other work with it.
