Product Description

Disney presents a new twist on one of the most hilarious and hair-raising tales ever told. Your whole family will get tangled up in the fun, excitement and adventure of this magical motion picture.
When the kingdom's most wanted - and most charming - bandit Flynn Rider hides in a mysterious tower, the last thing he expects to find is Rapunzel, a spirited teen with an unlikely superpower - 70 feet of magical golden hair! Together, the unlikely duo sets off on a fantastic journey filled with surprising heroes, laughter and suspense.
Let your hair down and get ready to cheer for "Tangled." Bursting with never-before-seen bonus features, it's even more enchanting on Blu-ray Hi-Def.

Disney's 50th full-length animated feature film, Tangled is a visually appealing, music-filled adventure full of romance and humor. The movie focuses on Rapunzel, a girl with long magical hair who's lived her entire life imprisoned in a tower by her greedy mother. Naturally optimistic and acquiescent, Rapunzel (Mandy Moore, A Walk to Remember, Because I Said So, Saved!) rarely complains about her circumstances, but for her 18th birthday she longs to leave the tower to see the floating lights that appear every year on her birthday. Her mother (Donna Murphy, Spider-Man 2, The Fountain) refuses her request, but when thief Flynn Ryder (Zachary Levi, Chuck) climbs the tower to escape his pursuers, Rapunzel (once she's conked him on the head with a skillet multiple times) impulsively decides to trust the young man and convinces him to help her escape to see the floating lights. Thus begins a journey that alternates quite schizophrenically between optimistic excitement and guilty remorse that will ultimately change Rapunzel's and Flynn's lives forever. Tangled is a masterful blend of humor, adventure, passion, and drama combined with a great musical score and top-notch animation. The Real 3-D effects add to the experience but probably won't really be missed in other formats. Best of all, Disney presents a princess who matures from a meek and compliant girl into a spunky young woman who's not afraid to pursue her dreams and risk it all for love--now that's a Disney princess worth emulating. I was Disappointed with this item. I found the Disney Movie Rewards Movie Code Missing. There was not any papers inside whatsoever. The front of DVD package states Movie rewards inside. I also found dust on the DVD itself. The packaging was different then the usual Disney packaging, was this rewrapped? I'm pretty upset.

Of all Disney animated films, I think Tangled may just well be my favorite and their best. And to think my family didn't catch this until we took a chance and bought it on DVD! It succeeds on every level--story, characters, animation, theme--and is really an underrated gem. Although it underperformed at the box office, it was fighting the huge production budget ($260M) necessary to create the computer animation software Disney would be able to use on all their films going forward. Tangled should have had Frozen's level of undeserved success really, as the latter film is massively overhyped and full of major story problems. It's a shame but at least more and more people are appreciating how good Tangled is (and, conversely, how lacking and problematic Frozen is).

Tangled was cutting edge and spot-on in its criticism of the lies and fear mongering (as demonstrated by Gothel) that is seen all over today's media, and how truth and understanding is the path to freedom and happiness. That's an important message. Conversely, there was nothing progressive or ingenious about Frozen. All it did was trick and cheat audiences by pulling out the rug from under archetypal plot developments (not to mention human nature) that audiences wanted to see unfold. It was illogical manipulation without a decent storyline, a lie to manufacture a "twist" ending (again, as proven by Hans acting completely in love with Anna EVEN THOUGH NO ONE IS AROUND TO SEE HIM). How Disney could go from the truism of Tangled to the sophism of Frozen, just like that, is astounding. And that Frozen was so much more financially successful ... well, let's just say the hype machine did it's work.

Finally Disney makes a new family classic!

With all of the sequels that Disney has been producing in recent years, I was losing hope for the company. Tangled however has given me fresh hope! It will be a classic that we will all fondly remember many years from now much like we fondly remember Disney's originals like Snow White and Cinderella.

I love the spin they put on the Rapunzel story. Flynn Ryder's character development is also quite endearing. There are some unexpected twists, some suspense, some romance... basically everything a good Disney movie truly needs!

I highly recommend this movie, especially if you are a fan of the old Disney movies.

I loved this movie from beginning to end! The story line is old school Disney with a modern twist with random outbursts of song that made the older films so enjoyable. The voice talents were perfect for their given characters! This is what new-age Disney should be.

The Film 4.5/5

Disney has been responsible for some wonderful films since releasing Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937. I remember being taken to the cinema as a child to see Bambi and The Jungle Book, and anxiously awaiting holiday specials showing classic Disney clips. What's more, all of Disney's releases are suitable for family viewing.

While I appreciate all of the above, many of Disney's classic titles are formulaic. It seems like there's a princess in every story, although there are only nine official Disney princesses. The movies feature numerous songs and often start with the image of a storybook which is used to set the scene. All of those things work, but it's a little too predictable for my liking.

Tangled is different.

Instead of using a storybook for the exposition, it uses a narrator. The narrator is Flynn Rider, our hero, and he's sarcastic and genuinely funny. There are songs, but they are short, infrequent, and also funny. There's a princess, but she doesn't act like one. This is a story that doesn't take itself too seriously. It feels fresh and contemporary. Quite frankly, I was surprised and delighted with the whole thing.

As a collector of Steelbooks and huge fan of TANGLED, I was so excited to find this rare gem here on Amazon. The price is far more than I would normally pay for a blu-ray, but it is pretty reasonable considering its hard-to-find status. From its glossy finish, to its beautiful cover art and embossing, it's also now the gem of my collection.

The set comes with discs for both 3D & regular blu-ray presentations, and features more extras than the DVD, including deleted sequences and a behind the scenes featurette (is nowhere near as in depth as I would have liked and is geared towards younger viewers).

If I had one quibble, it's that because this is a UK release (though thankfully region-free), the song by Grace Potter that played at the start of the end credits has been replaced by a new version of "I See the Light", sung by the winner of a Disney singing competition over there.

Aside from that though, overall I'm thrilled with this purchase - though probably moreso than my wallet is. :-)
