Schwarzenegger/Biehn/Hamilton ~ Terminator
Amazon.ca
This is the film that cemented Schwarzenegger's spot in the action-brawn firmament, and it was well deserved. He's chilling as the futuristic cyborg who kills without fear, without love, without mercy. James Cameron's story and direction are pared to the bone and all the more creepy. But don't overlook the contributions of Linda Hamilton, who more than holds her own as the Terminator's would-be victim, Sarah Connor--thus creating, along with Sigourney Weaver in Alien, a new generation of rugged, clear-thinking female action stars. It's surprising how well this film holds up, and how its minimalist, malevolent violence is actually way scarier than that of its far more expensive, more effects-laden sequel. --Anne Hurley --This text refers to an alternate dvd edition.

It's got a brand new transfer which has been meticulously and extensively cleaned up frame by frame in order to achieve a new standard of picture clarity for what is a 30 year old movie.
There is still a hint of grain present in the picture, however, this is precisely how it was meant to be seen, and if anything, it actually adds to the darker "film noire" nature its genre - at least in my opinion.
Please note the following: Although this Blu-ray is clearly number 1 with respect to video and audio quality, unfortunately, it has very little in the way of extras.
As a result, I highly recommend that if you happen to own "The Terminator - Special Edition" DVD, be sure to hang on to it because it contains the most extras of any release of "The Terminator" on any home video format.
For those of you wondering, I speak of the Region 1 (North America) DVD with a hologram-like DVD cover. It was released in 2003 if I recall correctly, and is very difficult to find for sale anywhere for a reasonable price, so definitely hang on to it if you have it. And it will compliment this Blu-ray very well.
So, one last time, this Blu-ray is by far the best version of "The Terminator" available for sale with respect to audio and video quality, but not extras. So be sure to combine it with "The Terminator - Special Edition" DVD if you want to have all the T1 extras.
Hopefully this review helps you make an informed decision, good day.
