HASH(0x994b8da4) out of 5 stars Kindle formatting of this book is not for use with a Kindle Dec 28 2011

Got this book t osee if our son might enjoy reading on a Kindle device and since he loves the book series we thought it a good way to try. Unfortunately the "optimized for larger screens" in very small print really means that anything smaller than 12-15" is too small. With this formatting you cannot adjust the font size of the actual reading text. Should be better annotated.

A great feature of this series is the colorful text and pictures.
The Kindle we have is not color, therefore I would not recommend this book on a Kindle.
Maybe with the new Kindle Fire?
HASH(0x994b7f18) out of 5 stars Inconsistant Reading Levels March 9 2012

Format: Paperback
I like the Geronimo Stilton Series but I felt that the Thea Stilton books are not really for kids in the 6-9 age range as the original series. They have several excerpts throught the story that tell about Alaskan History and so forth that distract from the story line and seem to be at a significantly higher reading level than the rest of the book. I love the idea of adding some interesting historical facts into the story but it should be written for young children but the facts were more on the preteen/teenage level. If they weren't going to include these facts on the reading level of children maybe they could take a lesson from the American Girl Publishers and include the facts at the end of the book. I also felt for young readers they should have added a guide for how to pronounce the names of the tribes- Inuit, aurora borealis, etc. Young Children are learning to be independent readers, so I love the graphics/illustrations in the story but the excerpts made my children (whom I consider to be excellent readers for their ages 6 and7) have to ask for a significant amount of help.

When Paulina is invited to a meeting of the Green Mice in Barrow, Alaska, the Thea sisters come with her. They were planning to learn about Alaska's natural history and enjoy the Northern Lights, that was all, but no one could have foreseen the events that followed. Their guest speaker goes missing, they hear explosions on the ice, and the Thea Sisters are left stranded in a house with no vehicles. Also, the tension increases when Paulina and Nicky like the same guy. During this visit to the frozen Arctic, the Thea sisters learn some important lessons about friendship and teamwork as well as Inuit history. This book has a little more complicated mystery than previous books. Overall, I REALLY enjoyed this book and give it 5 stars!
