Product description

Review

The Three Witty Goats Gruff is a wonderful variation of the popular classic Three Billy Goats Gruff-but better. Although the premise is similar - to get three goats over the bridge to eat the grass on the other side without being eaten by the troll - that's where the similarity ends. Author Lora Rozler has removed the violent ending of pushing the troll off the bridge and added a witty plan to get all three goats over the bridge without resorting to violence. You'll have to read the book to find out how the goats outwit the troll. This delightful story also added a strong female character to provide a role model for girls. Children enjoy repetition and sound effects like "trip trap trip trap" when a goat walks over the bridge. Teachers and parents will love the subtleties of problem solving, teamwork, preparing a plan, and measuring: each goat is bigger than the one before. The artwork in The Three Witty Goats Gruff is very well done and invites the young reader into the story. Illustrator Hoan Vu has created full-color images to display emotion and truly enhance the book. I highly recommend this colorful, witty tale. Every public library, school library and home library should add this wonderful story to their collection because it's sure to become a classic!

About the Author

Lora Rozler is a Canadian author of children's books. She's written numerous titles including Words, Freshly Baked Pie, Lucky Me, The Three Witty Goats Gruff and A Sackful of Poems. Her stories embody a lyrical sensibility which is a distinguishable trait of her work. Lora's passion for writing and art began at a young age and followed her into the classroom where she pursues her lifelong dream of teaching. Her role as an educator inspires her writing and offers the perfect backdrop to storytelling. The creative weaving of poetic expression and conceptual ideas result in a whimsical display that spark the attention of young readers. I love the power of words, the way they can create mood, evoke emotion and transform thinking. Much the same, is my love for art; the way a single stroke can dance playfully on a page or wither in sadness, depending on its tilt, its size, its colour. The combination of the two is where my stories emerge, where paint splatters onto neatly written words, giving them a certain edge, if you will. When Lora is not teaching or fiddling around with words, she enjoys running around the vibrant city of Toronto with her two children. To learn more visit www.lorarozler.com
