I agree with all reviewers about the lack of any ground breaking ideas in the book, which is filled to the brim with platitudes and truisms. On the other hand, it proved very interesting in that it shows how someone as Ms. Huffington, with all that power and money at her disposal, plus, at her admission, a very loving and caring mother, sister and family, does end up doing a mess of her own life and, most tragically, of that of her eldest daughter.

How can one reconcile the evaluation in Thrive! of the author's divorce as a "good divorce" with her daughter's writing that:

"I was always a happy kid. But everything changed the year I was eight and my little sister, Isabella, was six; my parents got divorced, and I was devastated. Then, the summer before I started eighth grade, my mom and dad decided to run for governor of California—against each other. I hated the idea. Their divorce was painful enough in private; seeing it hashed out in public would be even worse. They both ultimately dropped out of the race, but the experience was so upsetting that I decided to get as far away from Los Angeles as possible. So in 2004 I enrolled at St. Paul's School in New Hampshire.", after which her life took a downward spiralling to bulimia, alcohol and cocaine addiction.

I would value the book very high, as it has given me a most valuable lesson: Ms. Huffington does not make any mention of being really humble and wholly recognizing one's responsibilities towards their children. Trying to be true toward oneself (as Socrates said, "Know Thyself") may bring a harsh judgement, but Ms.

I eagerly awaited release of this book, bought it the first day it was released (a couple of months ago), and still haven't managed to finish reading it. I was so looking forward to Ms. Huffington's personal experiences informed by meaningful research. Instead I got a lot of self-promotion and page after page of nothing new research summaries.

My first question to myself--did I learn anything new? Not really! Most people have their epipany after they get sick or injured--I had mine many years ago when I close to live an alternative lifestyle. I hope this will help others in their search for inner peace. It was well written.
