My wife was looking for a way to cook healthier, but not in a way that you end up with a boring place of sad veggies. We were in the bookstore one day, and I saw this title. I said to my wife, "Oh, my, god. Becky, look at her menu. It is so big.
She looks like one of those health guys' chefs.
But, you know, who understands those health guys?
They only talk to her because she looks like a total professional cook.
I mean, her pantry, is just so big.
I can't believe it's just so well rounded, it's like, out there, I mean— yum. Look!
She's just so... thug!"

I like big beets and I can not lie
You other eaters can't deny
That when a meal goes by, it's an itty bitty pie
Stuff that round thing in your face
You get full, eating greenage and roughs
'Now you feeling that belly's stuffed
Fitting back in the jeans you're wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop sharing
Oh baby, I wanna cook with ya
Some home made pasta
My homeboys tried to warn me
But Pumpkin Chili makes me so hungry
Ooh, instead of fast food junk
You wanna eat like you give a funk?
Well, use Thug Kitchen
And stop your stomach from twitchin'!
I've seen them bakin'
Wanna eat what they're makin'
It's sweet, neat,
But they swear like they're on the street!
I'm tired of other cookbooks
Sayin' fried foods are the king
Take the average health nut and ask him that
Don't wanna pack so much fat
So, fellas! (Yeah!) Fellas! (Yeah!)
Has your girlfriend got the book? (Hell yeah!)
Tell 'em to bake it! (Bake it!) Bake it! (Bake it!)
Bake that healthy stuff!
Thug Kitchen got back!

This is great. I am not a full vegetarian, but I do try to incorporate animal free meals into my life and these recipes have shown that it's very easy and delicious to have a variety of flavours and menus without meat, dairy, or eggs. I have many recipes marked off to try, and have tried a handful already with good results. There are also informative pages with tips (eg roasting your own bell peppers) which is nice. The language is obviously a gimmick but I pretty much overlook it. I do wish maybe there was a less sweary version, as I have some religious family member's who I think would love the recipes but I know they'd never buy the book because of the language.
But, if a few swears on each recipe isn't going to bother you, do buy this. It's great.

We bought this book after spilling on a borrowed copy from a friend. We've made a few of the recipes and enjoy the no-meat approach as well as the "colourful" text (I was laughing out loud a few times when I read it cover to cover). A word of caution: you probably don't want your children to pick this one up as there's quite a few dirty words in it. I don't have children so I didn't mind the language.

We're not vegan/vegetarian but always looking for alternative recipes to mix into our diet to cut back on meat and dairy. We've enjoyed the pad thai, bean tacos and roasted cauliflower. I've found that the recipes we've made have been very tasty and I haven't missed any of the flavour from meat. I like how they recommend using lime juice to add flavour instead of salt.

We've found that the ingredients are quite easy and we had many of the items in our pantry already. I bought another copy as a Christmas present for a family member because I enjoyed it so much. I'm looking forward to making more recipes from the Thug Kitchen cookbook!

We've made almost everything in this book now and it's all amazing! I bought it for my boyfriend to teach him how to cook for himself without realizing it was a vegan cookbook. He used to be all about meat but now that he's been eating these recipes he has totally changed his tone on making fun of the vegans. My parents who are vegetarian were very jealous of the book so I had to order them one too. Also just pre-ordered the new one for my mom's birthday. She's made every recipe in this one so far and absolutely loves it too! Can't wait for party grub!

Alot of ingredients and recipes within recipes, and the swearing gets pretty old after a page or two. I have a total potty mouth, but it just wasn't funny after awhile and become offensive, even to me. So, don't buy this for your G-ma, unless she's a total butt kicker. But the recipes are good and unique. I've found that many vegan cookbooks have variations of the same basic recipes, but Thug Kitchen's are different and worth the trouble. After I've made them a time or two, I've figured out ways to shorten them. ie, buy hickory smoked almonds for the chickpea sandwich recipe.

I wanted to love it! Many of the recipes sound pretty awesome but in all honesty, I haven't been compelled to make many of them. For clean eats, I find myself using Gwenyth Paltrow's "It's All Good" much more, although that is admittedly less colourful in it's language and presentation. For veg dishes, I'm much more excited by Ottolenghi's "Plenty", and Isa Chandra Moskowitz is pretty much the goddess of all things contemporary vegan (I would say the Moosewood for decades past). Thug kitchen might be right down some people's alleys, but I simply just don't find myself using it very much.
