Product Description

Review

"I'm the founder of photo.net (started in 1993), so I've seen a lot of photography tutorials. This might be my favorite so far in terms of density of practical information...A very functional book designed for busy people." -- Philip Greenspun "Amazon"

Excellent book with clear descriptions of the different types of photography from the hobbyist to the more serious photographers, this book will stimulate the desire to improve and ultimately have more fun for those who have a passion for the art of photography, well written with lots of explanatory videos to compliment the prose...

It took a long time before my order came. Way past my husband's birthday, as I was hoping to give this as a gift. As an amateur photographer, he was delighted to get this book and and though its helpful, he claims he learned a lot more from Scott Kelby's books

I stumbled across this book a while back and bought it directly from the authors before it was available through Amazon.

I can't recommend this book highly enough. Tony and Chelsea have a unique formula that just works. They combine their expertise in photography, with excellent communication/teaching/writing skills along with the latest technology. Whether you've just literally picked up your first DSLR or are a seasoned pro, it's for everyone.

I have learned so much more than I ever thought I would from this book and continue to all the time. My love of photography has blossomed because I feel much more comfortable behind the camera and I look forward to the continuous learning. I haven't felt the need to look any further than this book since it comes with everything a person would want. The free videos and updates are invaluable and access to their Facebook and SDPcommunity.com offers an interactive experience that enhances your learning.

All this, with their genuine interest in making us better photographers is simply second to none!

The book itself is great and is overall very useful, despite this I feel the book lacks depth. The only major problem I have is after purchasing the book I am unable to join the facebook group they have to get input on the pictures I have taken. It's been about a month since I requested to join and they still have no approved and I'm assuming they won't.

Overall unsatisfied, wouldn't recommend someone to get this.

I have bought many books on Digital Photography, - always searching for the one that would provide the answers that were often missing. After many, many purchases, this one by Tony Northrup, fits the bill. Tony has a way of answering the questions you may ask, in a manner that is different from other authors. Somehow he has a way of explaining things that are more easily understood. He covers Digital Photography in all its aspects, and what is even better is that if you have bought his book, you have literally brought the 'teacher' along with you. How does this happen, well, if you have a cellphone you simply scan the QR code that you will find on several pages of his book, and you will be able to access over 9 hours of linked video tutorials! Just imagine. you have a photographic situation in the field, and you can resort to switching on your phone, and seeing Tony explain the answer on most occasions. If you don't use a cell phone. (and guess what, - I don't, - can't be bothered with them.;o) then you have another alternative, if you have bought the book, and registered it, (free BTW) then an access link is given so that you may view the same video tutorials on your laptop etc. Altogether a Win Win, situation. If I had to give up all but one, of my many photography instruction books, this would be the one I would have to keep

What, are you kidding me right now? Any little tip out of the hundreds contained in this wealth of wisdom that helps you take one better photo is worth the measly $10 (the cost of printing an 8 x 10 of something that turned-out bad because you didn't read this book.) Buy the online book, and order th hard copy, and you'll still be getting amazing value. You'll come to know Tony and Chelsea, and appreciate their enthusiasm and non-biased approach to equipment and techniques For the cost of one movie, you get hours of entertainment, education, and the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts. What are you waiting for??? I'm not a professional, but this photo doesn't happen if I hadn't read this book...

I am extremely impressed with this book and the price. I have spent a fair amount of money on photography books which would have been better spent on equipment. I have learnt more in a couple of weeks studying this manual than I have reading other manuals.

I've been taking photos with a DSLR for several years now. I decided to take my game to the next level...got a couple of L lenses and a couple new 600EX-RT flashes. Trouble is, I needed more knowledge and confidence to get out of the "auto trap".

This book and the accompanying videos are great! Tony (and hot wife Chelsea!) have an excellent teaching style. Very methodical and full of real-world tips to help me (and you) get better photos.

I'm bouncing between this book and the Speedliter's Handbook (Syl Arena). I highly recommend both of them!
