Saying goodbye for the second time might just destroy them both...

She vowed never to return.
To save her brother from financial ruin, Piper Harland must do the one thing she swore she'd never do—return to the tiny island hometown where Ryan "West" Westlake crushed her heart. Piper is tough, resilient and a little wild—much like the remote and beautiful Stewart Island where she grew up. As a cop who's part of the elite New Zealand Police National Dive Squad, bringing the dead back to their families still doesn't stop the guilt she feels over her father's drowning death. Now nine years later she's obligated to return to a hostile community as the outsider, and forced to work with the man who was once her best friend and first lover.

She's a risk he can't take.
West is an Island man, through and through. As owner of the local pub, he lives and breathes the local community, and sure as hell can't imagine living anywhere else. But most of all he refuses to ever fall for a woman like his flighty mother. He lost Piper once to give her the chance to fulfil her dreams of becoming a cop. But now she's back for an unexpected six week visit to help her brother—his best mate. Maybe West wants her a little bit, maybe he can't resist the temptation to tease and touch her, but can he fall in love with such a flight risk?

I loved this book! I couldn't stop reading! I love the chemistry between Piper and West, the setting, the story line and the family. I found other characters in the book were also well developed and I can't wait to read the next book in the series. I can see this series running with a lot of different characters and story lines! I recommend this book for anyone that is looking for a steamy summer romance!

HASH(0xa20bbf24) out of 5 stars Review: Due South #1: In Too Deep Jan. 21 2014
By Lisa Hines - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
In Too Deep by Tracey Alvarez is the first book in her Due South series. Set in New Zealand and featuring the hottest Kiwi men ever, this is a romance that will wrap itself around you and have you feeling right along with the characters. Their pain, their joy, their doubt is laid out in every word just ready for you to own as you read.

I know I'm reading a good book when I get the tight bands of emotion in my chest at pivotal points in the tale and this book delivered emotion by the literal boat-load.

Piper is a highly skilled member of the New Zealand Police National Dive Squad and is part of the team that searches for missing people at sea. She chose this career as penance for a tragedy in her past. Now she has to go back to her hometown and face the past head on. It just so happens that the past is a hot, two-legged heartbreaker, ex-best friend and future slave-driver.

Ryan Westlake (AKA West) is over Piper. She crushed him nine years ago when she left town and he won't EVER let that happen again. Never mind that he now has to deal with her on a daily basis while they all pull together to pull her brother (his best friend) out of financial ruin so he doesn't lose his home or family business. He is done with her.

Oh my. The hostility between these two (Piper and West) is intense and we slowly find out exactly what it was that happened nine years ago that caused them to go from best-friends and lovers to two near-strangers barely able to stay in the same room without antoginizing each other to explosive result.

A wonderful book that I had a hard time putting down. I'm excited to read more books about this small oceanside town in New Zealand and it's inhabitants.

HASH(0xa1bf1fc0) out of 5 stars Wonderful story Jan. 21 2014

In To Deep is a book that I'll re-read over and over again. That's for sure.

It is a wonderful story that you have to read in one sitting.

The characters are very well crafted. The story has a great an enjoying pace.

Piper Harland still, years after, feels guilt because of the death of her father. She is a cop and is a part of New Zealand Police National Dive Squad.

9 years later she is going to place she vowed never to come back. Place where her heart was broken. She is going back home because her brother needs her. For next 6 weeks she'll be working with him. Ryan “West” Westlake.

Loved this engaging story that kept me flipping the pages until the early morning hours.

I was so hooked on and enjoyed every single bit.

If you love stories that stay with you long after you have read the final page, In Too Deep is the perfect choice.

HASH(0xa1f019c0) out of 5 stars So enjoyable! Jan. 28 2014

There were so many twists and turns in this relationship - and plenty of other people to flesh out the story. I simply loved it. Loved the distinctive Kiwi style of speech which Tracey Alvarez has captured beautifully. Loved the setting on isolated Stewart Island. Loved the characters lurking in the background waiting for their own book.
There were small touches like the turkey mug that made me laugh so hard. Plenty of steam in the shower scene (and not the water vapor type.) I really enjoyed spending time with Piper and West and have already read the whole book through twice. I only do this for the really good ones - the first time to roar along with the story and the second to appreciate the writing. Loved it both times.

A book set in my most favourite country New Zealand? Hell, yeah, I’m in!!
Add well developed characters with one of them carrying a burden of the past, and a story about forgiveness and second chances to the mix and you have the wonderful book that is In Too Deep.
Oh, and, yes, there's a beautiful and hot love story in it as well!

Piper is a strong and tough character and I admire her for choosing a career in police diving after everthing she went through with her father.
Although she had left Stewart Island for good after West dumping her and her father dying shortly after, she put up the strength to return after nine years when her brother Ben needed her the most - to help him saving their family business when he got his leg broken.

I don’t know what it is, but the fact alone that Ryan Westlake was called 'West' by almost everyone instead of his first name - even by his own father! - made him sexy as hell for me! I can't explain... I think it's just HOT :)
What I didn’t understand was why he was fuming at Piper about her leaving 9 years ago, when he was the one who pushed her away in the first place. He had his reasons anyway, but he could've had some more faith in Piper - they would have found their way together.
But besides my lack of understanding for this action of his West turned out to be a sweet caring and loveable man.

For me it’s quite rare that I love a second character almost as much as I love the main ones, but with Piper’s older brother Ben I did.
Yes, first I wanted to scream at him about the way he treated his sister who had gone through so much, but he developed pretty well and I cannot wait for him to get his own HEA :)

Speaking of HEA - I looooved the ending of this book, the way West proved to Piper how much he had loved her already all these years ago... it just had me in awe.

Thank you, Tracey Alvarez, for this delightful book (and my increased yearning to visit New Zealand once again ;) )!
I’ll be on the look-out for book #2!

HASH(0xa1c88a98) out of 5 stars Real New Zealanders in real situations. Jan. 26 2014

Ms Alvarez is heading towards being the Jill Shalvis of the South Pacific. The characters in In Too Deep (Due South #1) are real Kiwis who call a spade a spade and have a depth of emotion that is not often found in contemporary romance novels. It's raw, gritty and very human. It's also sprinkled throughout with Kiwi humour and gives readers an insight into what makes us the thick skinned people we can often be - especially the guys and our wonderfully dedicated Police Force.

I'm not going to tell you the story as then you wouldn't need to read this fantastic book. But, having grown up with a Father who was New Zealand's first professional diver I can tell you that there are no glaring inaccuracies in Ms Alvarez's underwater scenes and if you've spent any time under water you'll feel the tension she's cleverly crafted.

In Too Deep is worth investing in, especially if you have a fascination with New Zealand and its people. It's secondary characters are interesting enough that I'm waiting waiting waiting for Ben and Kezia's story.
