What are doorknobs made out of?
Door knob materials have changed over the years, with the first models made out of wood. Glass knobs grew in popularity during the early 1800s, with ceramic or fine china becoming the fashionable materials of choice during this century as well. Today, most door knobs are metal. Brass is one of the top metallic materials used to make door knobs, partly because brass doorknobs automatically disinfect themselves, not carrying bacteria like steel or aluminum door knobs do. As many infections are (surprisingly) carried by door knobs, it’s something to consider if you’ve got kids in the house or a weak immune system.
