About the Author

JENNIFER BAIN runs Canada's only newsroom-based test kitchen. She is an award-winning journalist and working mom (with a vegetarian teen, picky pre-schooler and bison rancher husband) who buys her work groceries, handles cleanup and strives to cook like a citizen and not a chef. But she loves to eat out, collect chef recipes and wrestle them into submission.

Loved this cookbook. Jennifer's comments on each recipe and reader's choice comments made me feel like I was sitting with friends discussing our favourite recipes. The recipes are exotic and interesting but not intimidating. This will be one of my "go to" books!

The peameal bacon sandwiches on p. 57 are terrific, especially the mustard, horseradish and maple syrup dressing. I am a little daunted by some of the recipes which call for ingredients with which I am totally unfamiliar. This is a little surprising because I lived in Hong Kong for six years and most of the cuisines of the world are represented there. I need to spend more time with the book and then broaden my experience by trying more recipes.

HASH(0xa3d8b9cc) out of 5 stars It's more than a cookbook May 16 2013

This book led to an outing in Toronto which involved selecting a few recipes that looked particularly good and visiting the outlets that sold the ingredients to check out what else they had. A great introduction to multi-cultural cooking and a tour of Toronto's more diverse and interesting shopping neighborhoods. A good book on many levels!
HASH(0xa3831168) out of 5 stars Easy to follow. Good cook book for brides. Not complicated. May 10 2013

Book is easy to follow, no complicated ingredients. Good book for brides, or person starting out housekeeping. I had not tried making all the food, but just on reading sounds delicious.
