I only purchased this player to record through line-in, as not so many players have the recording function, and those that do there is no line-in. Well, I was surprised about how easy it is to operate, how many features it has. It plays even lossless format music (.flac), video, radio, there is no end to the list of what it does. And it is small, very portable. It comes with silicone protective case, looks and feels great! 4gb memory is plenty, but if this is not enough - you can expand with Micro SD card, the feature iPods don't have. OK, it is not a touch-screen, so what? The quality is great, never expected to find something like this for $50. I use it to record with line-in only once a week, the rest of the time my 15 y.o. son uses it, and he's very happy. This device can record 8 hours straight, and rechargeable batteries will last, on highest quality settings - and 4gb internal memory is enough.

I wanted an mp3 player with line-in capability, and this is perfect. This feature is not available for most mp3 players now for some reason. I can use audio out from any source to audio in on the player and record music, discovery programs, etc, in wave format to listen to as I do my boring job. Records fine with good volume. It seems to be a high quality product, which I would recommend.

HASH(0xa4045cd8) out of 5 stars It's more of a storage device. May 9 2014

This is by far the most infuriating music device I've had. There is no easy way to sync your existing playlists onto the device. The manual offers no help whatsoever since it is only a start up guide that tells you what each button does. It is a great device if you want something for radio or storage, but it is difficult to navigate and there is no way to play and shuffle all of the songs at once. I thought it would have the typical features like playlists, shuffle, repeat, and ways to organize your music. However it was a disappointment.

Works well for the price. If I need another one, I would purchase this again. I added a 16GB micro SD card, to fit all the music I want to listen to. Easy to move music files from computer to the player. Radio reception is just ok. Tried different headphones to work as the antenna. Could only pick up a few stations, having to move the wire around. Good thing I spend most of the time listening to my own music.

Best things about this player: * Battery life is good. Using at least 2-3 hours a day, it lasts at least 3-4 days. * The built in speaker works great for its size. No bass, but loud enough for personal listening. * EQ has enough setting options for any listener, for headphone or line-out use, including SRS Wow settings. *Comes with rubberized cover to help protect from bumps & light splashes. Also like the lanyard to hang player around your neck *Button panel is raised enough so I can control volume & search without looking at the player. * Good screen for viewing pictures, video, or music information.

Things that could be better: * After trying multiple headphones, volume is pretty good, but could be a little louder. When using as a line-out source, connected to a speaker, volume is sometimes not loud enough. I have a car stereo with wired input, & also a FM transmitter to play over the radio. If signal level is not strong enough wired either way from the player, the playback option shuts off. My old player was louder & did not have issues with this.

This MP3 player was a gift for my husband for his birthday to replace an old iRiver that finally died. While walking, he listens to his favorite radio stations and is able to record songs to form a playlist. It is feature-rich, easy to use, and appears to be of good quality. After switching to different earbuds, the sound was greatly improved. This MP3 has everything you could ever want and more. It can even store videos and e-books. I recommend getting this Transcend!
