I have to admit I loved the Transformers as a kid and having these as big budget movies has been great. Michael Bay gets way too much flack from people for sure. people these days like to go into movies and find the mistakes or plot holes rather then just go in and enjoy movies for what the should be and that's entertainment. This is a summer fueled popcorn flick that's just good to sit back and enjoy and no matter what anyone says I think Michael bay's attention to his craft is almost bar none, Known as a taskmaster for a reason he makes a lot of good movies not all are good but most are and this was one of them.

So just sit back and enjoy the what's on screen great movie.

VIDEO (2D):

Transformers: Age of Extinction explodes onto blu-ray with MPEG-4 AVC 1080p 2.40:1 encode. The transfer is simply flawless. The picture is a sumptuous visual feast of razor sharp details and bright, bold colours. Everything from the farmlands of Texas to Monument Valley to Chicago to Hong Kong and other China locations looks fantastic. Primary colours are warm and saturated and lush, with deep blacks. This is a fantastic video experience. (5/5)

AUDIO:

This is the first blu-ray disc with Dolby Atmos. Unfortunately, even though my home theatre is fitted with 9 Wilson WATT/Puppy speakers, my ceiling is not high enough to be refitted with speakers in the ceiling. This review is based on a very capable highly articulate, bombastic, reference quality Dolby TrueHD 7.1 sound mix. Despite the non-stop onslaught action and visuals and kinetic movement, this soundtrack is wonderfully subtle, using smaller, precise sounds to pull viewers into the on-screen action. Dialogue is clear and prioritized. This is a demo-worthy soundtrack, especially chapters 1, 13 and 20. The result is a wonderfully total immersive experience. (5/5)

TRIVIA:

This movie has an estimated budget of $210 million, but has a worldwide gross of $1,080 million, currently sitting just behind the Dark Knight ($1,084 million). It is interesting to note that the major income is derived from overseas (77%), mainly in China.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

Transformers: Age of Extinction is huge, loud, detailed and gorgeous, but it is a little bit too long and too much of the same. Michael Bay is an excellent craftsman and movie set field general. He had some problem with some locals in Hong Kong while he was filming there.

░░░░░GOOD STORY THAT DRAGS OUT A BIT LONG░░░░░

❖ I've enjoyed the entire Transformers series thus far. Age of Extinction is okay and meshes well with the first 3 films visually and otherwise (aside from the completely new cast)

❖ I feel like it was a bit too long though. Nearly 3 hours was too much for a crash 'em up robot battle movie. The dramatic scenes in between the battles told an interesting story. But the actual robot fighting scenes just played out forever. I like watching giant robots punch each other as much as the next guy, but they could be done in 2 minutes rather than 10-15 minutes each. It made the movie drag a bit.

❖ However.....and this is a HUGE plus....Optimus Prime starts off the movie as a flat front semi truck like the original toy. And it's SO MUCH BETTER!!!!

By The Movie Guy HALL OF FAMETOP 10 REVIEWER on Feb. 1 2015
Format: DVD
The movie starts in the Arctic, prehistoric times, Mexico City, Texas, and Chicago. I was expecting good bots vs. bad bots for control of the earth, and got something similar...after all there are so many places a story can go and unfortunately they decided to give us a taste of all of them. Mark Wahlberg, the world's greatest inventor, on the brink of poverty, is introduced early so we know who saves the world while also trying to save his daughter Tessa's (Nicola Peltz) purity. Nicola Peltz is pretty but no substitution for Meagan Fox. I know. I need to move on.

As expected Wahlberg does what his overpaid salary commands him to do. I am ready to walk out of the theater and then...they decided to do the same movie all over again in freaking China. I really did like the added family drama and not simply making this a metal on metal movie, but apparently Michael Bay has a brother in the salvage metal business and turned this into an over extended bot contest.

The one guy with decent lines gets killed off early. No sense entertaining us with witty dialogue, as that might take away from the mindless special effects. The film was way too long for me.

I was initially saddened to hear that Shia Labeauf would not be the returning main character but Mark Walburg (and the rest of the cast) did a hell of a job with this one. This long, action packed Transformers movie would have to be my second favourite of the sequel (next to the first one). I hope MIchael Bay is not finished making Transformers movies!

Our grandson is thrilled with this DVD! I had ordered the Blue Ray version first, not realizing that not all players would show it but knew there was a regular DVD included in the set. For some reason his player, although only 6 years old, would not play it, so had to order this version and no problems watching it many many times already!
