This album is awesome. Chris has such an old country voice. I compare him to other great country artists like David Allan Coe, Merle Haggard and George Jones. Old country story telling at it's best.

I've been waiting for Chris Stapleton to do an album of his own for quite a while. This was not disappointing.
When you've had enough of cow-pop or country rap, and whatever crap Toby Keith and his lot are selling, try the real thing.
Chris has a voice for the ages. Everything from low and subtle to a full out scream.
If there is anything to criticize, I wish he had done some acoustic versions that are on youtube.
Buy this right now but be sure to check him out on you tube especially the song "Who are you listening to".
Classic.

Incredible Album!! Stapelton's songs are personal and every one tells a story. I hear shades of Willie, Johnny and Waylon all over this masterpiece as well. Just a great country-blues album ... All killer, no filler. My new favorite!

The digital copy sounds a lot cleaner, which I didn't think I would ever say. I don't know if it was just a bad recording, or if the quality of the recording for vinyl was up to par. Higher notes aren't sharp or crisp, overall muffled old sounding record. Overall a little disappointing.

Nice combination of country and blues, with strong, relaxed vocals. Not one weak song. However, this is one of the worst record pressings I have come across--old or new. Far too much surface noise to make it a keeper, even after cleaning the records on a high-end record cleaning machine.

Update: I received the replacement album and it's the same poor quality as the first. Buyer Beware: the production quality on this recording is terrible. I am not alone. There are many music blogs with many members stating the same issue with this record. Mercury records should be ashamed for their poor production of a major talent.

My rating is 3 stars overall: 5 stars for Chris, and 1 star for the record quality.

I'm not a country music fan, in fact this is the first country album i purchased since some old school folk Johnny Cash. Only one comment comes to mind: You need this album; Chris Stapleton is saving country music one song at a time !

Good old fashioned story telling wrapped up in country melody.
