Triad is a story written on a very fascinating premise. But one thing for sure is that this eerily curious but fascinating story strikes a chord with its target readership. I decided to read it out of curiosity and was not disappointed. Lauren crafted a well-observed story with an amazing story line. The smooth flow of the story pulled me in right away from the opening chapters to the end, by the right choice of words, effective dialogue and great descriptive strength. The plot is laid out in a timely manner, and brought out the suspense masterfully. This is not a genre I read often, but I enjoyed this story. My friend put me to this story, The Verdict of Hades, and The Usurper and Others. He was very right about what he said. Good story. I will keep an eye on other Lauren Dane stories. Overall, it is a well-written.

I am not sure that the story was built around the sexual encounters or about the three getting together as a single powerful force. If it is the latter, well, I found the story lacking in intrigue and action. I would have rated a one if it were the case. I found the sexual encounters were too elaborate and occured to often and distracted from the story line. One good thing about the book is that I never read a "sex" book before. Now I know. Definitely not going to book 2. Not my style.

Lee Charvez is a witch in a family where all of the women are born with inherent gifts of power. She is a witch dreamer, she has the ability to walk in dreams and the subconscious and to work magic there. There is only one Charvez witch dreamer a generation and she's the strongest in generations. She meets the man of her dreams, literally, when she bumps into Aidan Bell outside their apartment building in New Orleans. He's a three-hundred-year-old vampire with the face of a wicked angel, and he has no problem with claiming her as his own. As if that isn't miraculous enough there's another man, a powerful wizard, Alex Carter, who makes their partnership into a triad. Problem is, there's no time to sit back and enjoy her newfound loves because there's a demon out to destroy the source of her powers, and her entire family in the bargain.

HASH(0xa126ec54) out of 5 stars Interesting Twist on a Familiar Plot Dec 5 2005
By KMont - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Holy smokes! Someone put me out! This book was steamy - to say the least. Lauren Dane adds her own interesting twist to not only the menage scene, but also the magical world of witches, vampires and other parallel universe must-haves. The highest compliment I can think to give Ms. Dane at this point is that I'm sorry Amazon doesn't have any of her other books available in print - or that Ellora's Cave is so slow to produce paperbacks. I'll go ahead and say up front that there were some parts I wasn't happy with, but I still enjoyed the book and was pleased that I got it.

Lee Charvez comes from a long line of witches sworn to protect New Orleans and its people from evil encroachers. They are no oridinary witches though. Lee, her mother and her aunt Elise are witch dreamers, their magic is the most powerful and important of all. Lee just happens to be the most powerful and talented witch dreamer her family has ever produced. When she encounters an evil stronger than anything she's ever felt, at her mother and aunt's urging, she works to strengthen her magical skills in order to fight the evil off. In her dreams she encounters two men. One is Aiden, an ancient vampire that also dreamed of Lee and knows she is his one true mate. He moves to New Orleans to find her, and Lee and he fall in love. The other man is Alex, a powerful sorcerer from Chicago who is also meant to be with Lee. Alez also happens to be a close friend of Aiden and soon the three are emeshed in a relationship that is destined to save not only Lee's life, but that of everyone in New Orleans. The evil that Lee has been preparing for is ready to take her - and everything else in its path. But, just when you think you've pegged the story, Dane goes and throws in other elements you may not have been expecting.

This story was riveting from the first page. I couldn't wait to pick it back up each time and continue the story (If I had had the time, I'd not have put it down till I was done!). Lauren Dane took the effort to write sensually steamy love scenes as well as a well-thought out plot. My only problem was that at times, some of it seemed a little contrived. For example, when Lee meets Aiden for the first time, it's just "wham" and they are together. There's no working toward a relationship with them, they're were just not together one minute and together the next. Kind of abrupt. It's the same way with Alex. Readers will realize that he has a key role in the book, but again, "wham", there he is and then the next thing you know, he's intimately involved in their relationship. Yes, the story gives a reason for their quick hook-ups, but I like to see a little more effort when working towards total happiness in these books. Maybe one could look at it as confidence on the part of Lee's character. She's dreamed about these men, therefore she knows what's coming and that's that....Still, I'd like to have seen a little more conflict between the main characters.

All in all, it was an interesting read and I can't wait to read the next book. There's a very obvious plug for the next story in the epilouge, so get it cranking Ms. Dane! You've got some hungry readers out here.

HASH(0xa126eea0) out of 5 stars Hot & Steamy with lots of action. Jan. 1 2006
By chic lit - Published on
Format: Paperback
Summary: Witches, vampires, & wizards. This is the first book in this series. Lee Charvez meets the man of her dreams. She is a witch and he is a vampire..Throw in a old friend who's a wizard and we have a triad... Aidan is the vampire who makes sweet love to her. Alex is the wizard with a very demanding sexual appetite (BDSM). You will have to read the book to figure out how they begin sharing Lee. Too bad these three can't enjoy there new found loves because there is a nasty demon out to kidnap Lee and make her for his very own and destroy her family.

Very believable characters and story line.

After I read this book I went straight to Ellora's Cave and purchased the next in the series ( A TOUCH A FAE) which is a e-book and read that straight through..

Lots of action, sex and more sex....

HASH(0xa11920fc) out of 5 stars Great New Writer Nov. 15 2006
By boogiebev - Published on
Format: Paperback
This book was a lot of fun. Of course you have to suspend disbelief to accept the situation but that's why it's called fiction. The New Orleans setting gives it the proper atmosphere to carry the story along. I do think that one reviewer who panned it, should look to their own mispellings and grammatical errors before they point a finger at an author.

HASH(0xa1192450) out of 5 stars Suckage ! Nov. 29 2011

I have to tell you I've had a very difficult time getting through this book. It's not the sex scenes or even the fact that the characters are supposedly in love and don't show it(after dreaming of each other and then meeting for one day... I mean come on !) but the story, the characters and the dialogue just suck. First the main character lee, is supposedly this uber powerful witch who takes literally everything in stride. Nothing effects this chick. She shows no real emotion. She never worries or panics, not even when big bad and evil shows up. She finds the perfect man (in a day) then finds the perfect house.... like the next day.... its absurd ! The characters are completely flat, I couldn't relate to any of them.... and romance *scoffs* there is none. I mean I have a hard time buying the love at first site bit, but this was beyond bad. The dialogue between the characters is even worse, it's like the old cartoons I watched as a kid..... no internal dialogue..... Seriously who talks like that?! The story itself had potential but the author completely botched it. This may have been a free read but it was not worth the time to pick it up. I love reading free books and being introduced to authors I might not otherwise try. I've purchased several series that I've really enjoyed because of this setup.... but I guarantee that if another book from this author pops up, I will not be picking it up. What an utter waste of time.

HASH(0xa1192210) out of 5 stars 3.5 - have re-read several times July 31 2010
By Kay Dault - Published on
Format: Paperback
Yes, I have re-read this book several times. I like the combination of the main characters Lee, Aidan and Alex. The biggest drawback for me is the slower pace of this book and the Demon Lord / Death magic VS Freya / The Compact (contract for Charvez women to be witches / protectors). Wish the witches (and their powers) were just from there own abilities or talents, not sure why we need a supernatural being to grant super witchy powers. But this aside, I like the strong family theme in this book - still can't keep all of the women relatives straight. One of the other reviews critized the speed that Lee fell in love - this was not a problem for me at all. I hate books where the chicks have to hold guys at arms length and fight the attraction like the world will end if they end up in bed - can't believe that what they are feeling could be something worth going after. I realize that love and sex do not have to be combined - but Love a first Sight / Dream Lovers is cool in a fictional story. I expect a certain amount of magic / unreality in romance novels - especially those with Vampires.
