I have read about 1/3 of the book so far. Overall it is a fun book and a nice buffet of great ideas, tricks and insight from experienced mentors in various area of expertise. Here are my main positive and negative so far:
+The format is fun. You can easily pick a chapter to read at random. I believe this book is not the kind you read from beginning to end in order.
+The selection of mentors is very diverse. Everyone can find quite a few in their area of interest.
+ A lot of the very interesting mentors are not that known even if they are expert in their field. These were my favorite discoveries so far for my own area of interest.
+10 questions out of 11 asked to mentors are very well thought of to encourage very insightful answers.
-Personally, I found the answers to the question 6. what is an unusual habit or an absurd thing that you love? to be uninteresting most of the time. We get it everyone is a bit weird...
-A few mentors chapters feel like lost opportunities. The one that struck me as the most pointless is the Jimmy Fallon chapter. Less than one page and a half during which he recommend Man's Search for Meaning (like a lot of people already do in this book), mention often buying a children book to give and talk about taking walks. Nothing was outstanding in there unfortunately. I would have expected to get some gems about the art of interviewing or social intelligence as Jimmy Fallon seems excellent in those area.
- I really enjoy Tim Ferriss writing and ideas and I would have liked to read more of those in Tribe of Mentors. I liked the chapters Tim included in his prior book Tools of Titans on top of the interviews and was a bit disappointed not to find any in this new book.
-Some answers get a bit repetitive. No excuse not to read Man's search for meaning after so many people recommend it...
Overall I am still enjoying this book a lot and recommend it.
It hasn't been too long since I started reading the book, but I am VERY happy and surprised with the quality and depth of the answers in this book. I will definitely keep it with my Tools of Titans book and keep reviewing it as time passes.
I first heard him mention it on his podcast "The Tim Ferris Show"! I think he has a new podcast out now for "Tribe of Mentors" in which he had various experts on a whole range of topics from life, to business, to being a better person !!
This book is also available on Audible for those who don't have time to sit down to read. Again, great book... anything by Tim Ferris who is a best selling author, is sure to be well researched and he practices what he preaches. I also get the 5 bullet Friday !!!!
Other books by Tim would be the "4 Hour Workweek".
Highly recommended read if you are a life coach or in business for yourself!
