The luminescent lines and shimmering surfaces of Tron: Legacy will tantalize anyone who's lusted after the latest smartphone. The long-ago disappearance of his computer-genius father has left Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund, Four Brothers) with existential ennui and a lot of money. When he discovers his father's secret workshop, he gets sucked into a computerized realm ruled by a megalomaniac computer program named Clu--who just happens to be his father's virtual doppelganger. To find his real father (Jeff Bridges, reprising his role from the original Tron, with a bit of his role from The Big Lebowski thrown in for kicks), Sam has to fight in gladiatorial games, drive in digital demolition derbies, and be stripped and dressed by slinky pneumatic babes. For all the techno-babble and quasi-philosophy the characters spout, this is a movie without an idea in its shiny head. It would be pointless to describe the many sillinesses because Tron: Legacy isn't actually trying to be smart; it's trying to look cool. It succeeds. Olivia Wilde (House) looks like the coolest action figure ever (if the entire movie could be nothing but the shot of her lounging on a futuristic sofa, it would be a masterpiece of avant-garde gizmo-fetishism). The facemasks are cool, the glowing skintight outfits are cool, the light-cycles are really, really cool--and let's be honest, it's all about the light-cycles. That's what the audience for Tron wants, and that's what Tron: Legacy delivers. --Bret Fetzer

Tron: Legacy has really grown on me. I saw it at a midnight screening in Toronto and I thought it was decent but nothing more. But when I bought my 3D TV, I purchased the 4 disc package and I soon became a huge fan of this film. A sequel to Tron from 1982, it follows Kevin Flynn's son, Sam, as he is led to the virtual world in which his father has disappeared. And what a world it has become! Some of the highlights of Tron: Legacy are a super-cool and fun electronic score from Daft Punk, a mysterious and beautifully designed virtual world and loads of unique fantasy action involving an inspired cast of characters. And the core of the story is simple but effective.

The 4-disc package includes 3D Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray, DVD and digital discs. The Blu-Ray has plenty of special features to peruse. Rated PG

Hmm, where can I get me an isomorph girl?

If you missed the first movie, don't worry, Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) tells us the plot in the beginning as he describes things to his son, a skeptic of his world. Dad goes missing. The company is taken over by the "evil" partner who actually wants to sell software than give it away, which on the surface is a better business model, but in this movie it is a terrible evil. Years later Sam Flynn, the son (Garrett Hedlund) discovers his father's secret lab and accidentally crosses over into Tron land. The reason why we watched the first movie was because of the graphics. No one really cared as much about the plot as we did the cycle races.

During said cycle races, Sam is rescued by a girl Quorra (Olivia Wilde) in a Batmobile and is taken to see his real father. Quorra has the ability to wear her hair slanted to either the right of left (shades of Tina Majorino in Napoleon Dynamite!)

Like the first movie, the graphics are great (amazing what a little strip lighting will do) and the acting was bland as was the plot. The plot is at times metaphoric. The user, or program creator (humans) are gods. Sam is the son of god and is also a god. The programs want to revolt against the gods and take over their world. Meanwhile Jeff Bridges has discovered ummm, bio digital isos that will change the world. The plot is overwhelmed by the graphics.

The movie is more about Clu than Tron, but "Clu" movies seem to bomb.

The film is programed for the younger crowd.

Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) misplaces his father (Jeff Bridges) at an early age. I suppose this has something to do with San growing up with a renegade attitude and a propensity for freedom of information. Then one cat he is mentor Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner) receive a page from a defunct phone line. The adventure begins as Sam is digitized. In the process of finding his father he is mesmerize by a cutie (Olivia Wilde) with a secret of her own. Will he save his father? Will he want too? Will the cutie serve a higher purpose or perish? Let's have some fun telling Sam not to fall into obvious traps.

Of course there has to be updates to the presentation in terms of graphics and complexity as it would be a tad hokey to try to limit us to the original costumes and terminology. But we still get the TRON thrill.

If you enjoyed the original -- and even if you didn't -- Tron Legacy deserves to make it into your library. It had been a decade or two since I watched the original (on VHS) and there is enough backstory in Legacy to bring you into the movie and storyline, and I therefor think that for those who haven't seen the original Tron this should make it easy to get up to speed and enjoy the flick.

This is one of the best movies to justify the money you've invested in your 3D system, and the soundtrack by Daft Punk does similar work on your audio setup. It's visual and audio candy at it's finest!

Usually I am afraid of sequels... especially the ones made decades after the original. This is an exception. Lots of fun. Great to see a CGI version of Jeff Bridges 20 years younger, although a bit plastic looking but hey... he's in the "Grid" after all. Was missing the spiritual thoughts of the first one (who are the "users" really?) but the action and look and feel compensated.

The cinematography is amazing in this film, the director has a clear and concise way of telling a story as well.
Joseph Kosinski's vision of the Tron universe really shines, and the 3D makes this a must see.
This is one of the few movies that I can watch over and over again.

A must see for any sci-fi fan that loves a good story and amazing visuals.

Story is mediocre but the aesthetic of this film more than makes up for it, I love the look and feel of the black and neon. The action is really good too. If you allow yourself to be immersed in the universe and taken in by your imagination it is a lot of fun, but if you let all the implausibilities of being in a digital world it might not be for you.
