From USA Today Bestselling Author Allie Juliette Mousseau

An Amazon Best Seller in War and Military Romance!

"When you're lost... True North"
The North brothers were hell on wheels-adrenaline-junky bad boys. You’d think they had a death wish – every one of them – but they didn’t really, they just got off on the thrill of pushing every limit, that gravity or any other force told them they couldn’t conquer. What they weren't prepared for were the women that would steal their hearts.
Book 1 True North Finding Home Livie and Jake
Livie Morrisey is dreading seeing Jake after his heroic homecoming from Afghanistan. She's been in love with Jake North since she was a little girl, but he was three-and-a-half years older than her and her big brother’s best friend. She was always nothing but the off-limits little sister – until the night before Jake left for the Army, when he'd given her her first kiss. They'd kept in touch for a year, but once Jake was deployed to Afghanistan, he'd cut off contact suddenly and she'd never heard from him again. For the past three years Livie has kept herself distracted with homework and her university studies, but now Jake's going to be up close and personal. And Livie can’t decide if tonight's finally the night to prove to Jake she’s all grown up or the night she should let him go forever.

Each book in the series can be read as a STANDALONE. (Although with all these hot, delicious bad-boys and sassy bad-ass women I completely endorse reading all of them.)

HASH(0xa586ca44) out of 5 stars Romantic story that attempts to address a heavy issue but falls short April 14 2014

3.5 Stars

Jake North is the middle child in an affluent North Dakota ranch family. He enlists in the army after graduation to find his place in life. Olivia (Livie), three and a half years younger and his little sister's friend, comes from a broken home--neglectful father and mother who abandoned the family. Her older brother is friends with Jake and his family. Jake and Livie crush on each other before he ships off and then find that the feelings are still there when he returns home a public war hero but broken and with secrets.

At times I think this book suffers an identity crisis. It's not sure it wants to be a fantasy romance or a gritty real life struggles book. As a result, there are abrupt changes from sweet and feel-good to traumatic and dramatic. I suspect that if the author would have picked one and went with it, the book would feel less like a draft and more like a final product. More chapter breaks or time headings would have also been helpful as too many places the story jumps a couple weeks or months ahead without warning.

While the story brings up an important issue of PTSD and the treatment of soldier both during and after deployment, it feels more like a prop to create drama in the story rather than as a gripping look into a serious subject. Likewise with Livie's abusive alcoholic father. By the end of the book the PTSD is all but dropped in favor of a love heals everything approach.

The story is told solely from Livie's point of view. Chapters from Jake's perspective would have been beneficial for his character development and for the reader to relate to his struggles. I also had to wonder if the author actually interviewed any real life couples who PTSD effected their relationship. That kind of research might have gone a long way to adding substance to the story. Otherwise, some parts read like Livie's Psych 101 text book.

There are some sweet moments between the two and there is no cheating. The "paint scene" was probably the cutest and best part of the book. It was the best blend of romance and emotional struggle.

The story plays a bit to the teenage girl fantasy of saving yourself for your one true love. That and the excessive musical references (particularly in the beginning where they appear multiples times in a single scene distracting from the text) probably make this story more appealing to a young adult audience than a mature reader.

The book is listed as #5 in War and Military Romance. If you are choosing this book for that genre, I'd first recommend a similar title and topic (Private North by Tess Oliver) that better and more subtly blends the PTSD angle into an engaging romantic story along with a touch of mystery. I have no affiliation with either author; I have simply read both books and am making a recommendation based on the topic.

HASH(0xa55ff960) out of 5 stars Really poorly written. How old is the author?? July 15 2014

I'm really not sure how this book got so many 5 star reviews! The writing is beyond juvenile. It's so bad I stopped reading at 32%. I tried. Truly. Honestly it's written as if done by a 12 year old girl. Very immature and just unsophisticated - even for a ya type romance. Don't bother.

HASH(0xa4e0ddbc) out of 5 stars Brilliant and emotional March 20 2014
By Nicole McCurdy - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I don't even know where to begin in explaining all that went into this book to make it so damn brilliant. It radiates with emotion and drama and angst but at the same time it is so profoundly moving in dealing with the very real and devastating effects of PTSD in soldiers and the repercussions of that disorder and the fall out effect it has on those around them.

Jake is the solider in this story and Livie is his shining beacon of hope in a world filled with darkness and pain. Their love story was nothing short of beautiful to read unfolding through each page and over each and every hurdle and there are som doozy's. Jake is magnificent in this story, your heart literally aches for him, all you want to do is take his demons away for him, heal him- much like our heroine Livie wants and attempts to do. She too was a terrific character- stunning, strong, unyielding in her life-long love for Jake no matter how dark it or he got and simply just a beautiful person inside and out. Even the secondary characters add something to True North, Jules, Nate, the North brood and Livie's alcoholic dad and absentee mother. There is so much love and emotion here as well as added spice and a great chemistry between the two main protagonists. (Loved the drinking game at the homecoming party! Hawwwwt.)

I really don't want to ruin the entire story for you but at one point when I thought one thing, something completely different and gobsmacking happened and I don't know if I was the only one who didn't see it coming, but holy hell! You'll know what I'm talking about once you read the italics and don't blame me if your Max Factor waterproof mascara becomes a black Max Factor waterfall down your cheeks, I forewarned you! If you're looking for a beautiful romance that packs an unbelievable wallop of angst, epic love and emotion, buy True North.

Allie Juliette Mousseau's writing is wonderful. She knows how to bring fun and laughter to a situation (A certain concert scene 'Now it's a party') but she can bring the seriousness just as well, and manages it all with such aplomb and understanding of the topic that you take a minute at the end of the book and think 'S***, this is real-life. This happens every day.' That makes True North all the more poignant...
Definite Book Hangover material right here. Jake has just been added to my top ten book heroes of all time, and that's a damn selective list to be on. Great story, great writing, great characters...need I say more?

HASH(0xa4d8f954) out of 5 stars Horrible April 13 2014

There is no depth to this story! Serious subjects are swept under the rug or resolved so fast- it begs the question... why did the author even introduce them?! This seems like an early first draft of a teen novel that the author decided to punch up with some mild sex screens. In my opinion, unless you're in high school, skip this book.
