Even people that think they are familiar with Islam need to read this book. The West has for a long time now been saying that most Islamic people are peaceful and while that may be so, their religion is not. History in general needs to be read up on by people of the 21st century and this book is a great primer.

Spencer reveals to many what I already have known for decades. Yes, it is true that there are many peaceful and honest Muslims, but what about their "prophet?" Was Muhammed peaceful, was he a prophet? I know the answer and if you don't know for certain... this book will enlighten you.

The fact is that this so-called prophet was simply a genocidal monster bent on killing all those who wouldn't follow him. He was a ruthless military leader more akin to a Ghenghis Khan or a Hilter than a Jesus or Buddha. Wake up PC North America!

I read this book a while back. What I liked about Robert Spencer, is that he laid out the history of Muhammad in a logical chronological format. His references to the religious books of Islam were thoroughly researched.

What intrigued me was his understanding of how the passage of time and the effect of power had on Muhammad. For Muhammad went from a mild religious man who had a curiousity about his world, including Judaism and Christianity. Early on Muhammad taught a gentler version of Islam. As time passed, and with the acquisiton of power and influence, he became more of a tyrant who used his absolute power over people to get his own way. For the first time I understood why people outside of Islam see Islam as a Jekyl and Hyde faith. Both loving and faithful (like most wonderful Muslim families), yet cruel and at times outragious (like Jihadists who cut off people's heads).

Recommended read for those who wish to understand the dichotomy of love, use of power, and violence in Islam.

A great book by Robert Spencer. well researched and laid out in a chronological order making it easy to follow. This is neither an assault on Islam or Muhammad as some have suggested but rather a factual look at his life using the same sources that credible Islamic scholars use. It is also not a whitewash or an attempt to make Muhammad appear bigger than life, rather a straightforward factual account and very well done.

As to my own perspective on Muhammad, that is not an issue here, rather this book has helped me see the Muslim perspective of their Prophet and helped me realize what to expect from Islamism.

The author should be commended upon this book. It should be widely read, as even muslims - unless they are in radical denial - cannot fail to be qualitatively informed about this work. However can such a man as Muhammad be epitomised as being "perfect"? Islam's values are warped....

This is a very enlightening book, obviously not "politically correct". However, it is exactly what westerners need to burst their "denial" bubble.

This is a wonderful book giving a very truthful account of the Prophet of Islam. There are facts in this books which have never been told and majority of the population is totally ignorant about it. Everyone has a right to form their opinion about Islam after reading this book. My opinion after reading this book is that there are some wonderful muslims in this world but Islam is hardly a religion of peace. I know some of my friends will disagree with me on this.
