I really liked this film! Yes, it's about death, and how a EVERYONE (widow, family, friends and fellow townspeople) deals with it... or doesn't deal with it, especially in a small rural town ( which is pretty much a character in itself.) But, the mood stays light keeping the film focused on Hannah (Rebecca Hall) as the trying-to get-her-shiz-together-widow and Anthony the-sarcastic-New-Yorker-trying-to-write-an-autobiography-about-her-dead-muso-genius-husband. It's kind of a romantic comedy? With a dash of drama and could easily be an extended episode of NORTHERN EXPOSURE... Like if Chris died and all his fans kept turning up in town bugging everyone - Hannah is also very Maggie-esque. Blythe Danner is golden as Hannah's mom and for giggles observe Alcide from TRUEBLOOD's horrifying Maine accent, they should have subtitled him.

I enjoyed this movie so much I got tired of waiting for it in the online queue at the library and bought my own copy. It's not a perfect film, but it's got a fabulous cabin, scenery, cute plot, two awesome dogs, quirky acting, and a great soundtrack. I'm also a Rebecca Hall fan, so I enjoyed her performance as the tough widow. So, maybe the romance aspect wasn't so hot, but the rest worked for me.

One of the best films I've seen in ages. It's a great love story that felt real in every way, and it was laugh out loud funny. Rarely is a movie all those things...And...did I mention the music? Fabulous "Neil Youngish" soundtrack by Damien Jurado. Two big thumbs up from our family!

Sudeikis does well in a more dramatic role just proving again that comedic actors possess the chops and range for myriad roles as compared to their "leading men" counterparts. Rebecca Hall is solid, though at times appears to be playing just behind the beat.
love. Not so much

The romance in this movie feels tacked which was disappointing. There wasn't a lot of chemistry between the actors and the writing (as regards the couple) was formula. Put them in conflict, throw them alone together...love. Not so much. The premise of the movie was good in that the story of the mysterious writer's death so young and the grieving widow. That was interesting and the less than neat resolution of his death also nice...just it didn't jell. Three stars for the plot and the actors. The actors are both individually interesting to watch.
