Only one of the series that I have read. Wanted something set at Christmas and the reviews looked promising. There are too many characters in the group of retired women and their spouse and they come off as stereotyped seniors and very shallow. Too much feels like "filler" as if someone is trying to make it longer. The murder was a bit far-fetched and easy to predict who the murdered was. Comes complete with recipes but they are bizarre like melting butterscotch chips over corn flakes- not even real recipes. I finished it but wished I had given up much earlier. Would never read another by this author.
Kate and the Bunco Babes, the card playing friends are preparing for a holiday home tour in the town of Serenity Cove. They offer to help Eula Mae get her house ready, as Eula is elderly and is getting ready to move into a senior’s residence. This is their chance to let Eula have one last Christmas in her home all decorated for the season. As the group is getting ready to decorate, searching Eula’s house for Christmas ornaments, they stumble across a skeleton. A skeleton you say? Yes…. With the home tour in only a few weeks, the Bunco Babes have to work overtime to help solve the mystery so that Eula’s home isn’t a crime scene anymore. Can they do it? You must read to find out! What I loved about this book was that our heroines aren’t model perfect, young women. Most are elderly and all have such eclectic personalities. It was a joy to get to know the ladies in the book. I found the book fun to read with the antics of Kate and the Babes. It kept my interest as the story unfolds. This is the first book I have read by Gail Oust, and the book does hint at past mysteries solved but it read brilliantly as a stand-alone novel. I know this definitely won’t be the last book I read of hers. All in all an easy read, a great story and a feel good ending. Thank you to NetGalley for an advance copy of this book to review.
This is a new to me series but after reading this latest offering, I will read the previous books in the series. This was a quick enjoyable read. I found the characters engaging and the whodunit well written. I would certainly recommend you roll the dice and read this book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

I enjoyed this book because I liked the bunko friends and their relationship with each others. Kate found a skeleton and was like a bloodhound on the terail of the killer. There were several suspects, but I must admit that I suspected the culprit before the end. I liked the mix of characters.
Even though I have only given this book a 4 star others might think it deserves 5 but some parts were a bit slow on it. But still a very interesting book to read if you like mysteries which I do. I do recommend readers to read the book.

Happy are the amateur sleuths of cozy mysteries, pitted against intransigent law enforcement. Take Kate McCall of South Carolina, widowed, retired, Ohio native, protagonist of Gail Oust's Kate McCall Mysteries. Kate doesn't know when to stop; an irresistible force pitted against the immovable object of local Sheriff Wiggins. Kate discovered it, and she's determined to solve a mystery twenty-five years cold.
