I bought this movie to help me re-live some exillirating moments of the Series - And I'm glad I did ! The top four producers weaved tales of terror and emotions run high in all episodes. Excellent actors show their art and make the storylines feel real. The original movie was Remastered in Dolby Digital.

After 20 plus years, TWILIGHT ZONE:THE MOVIE has attained somewhat of a cult following and has maintained a level that it is not too outdated, but did not do the original tv series justice. The movie will be remembered mostly because actor Vic Morrow (tv's COMBAT) was killed during filming along with two children. The first segment KKK is an original entry, directed by John Landis and starring Vic Morrow. It is not too inventive and very predictable. Morrow has made a career of playing baddies from BLACKBOARD JUNGLE to THE BAD NEWS BEARS so he was perfectly cast as the bigot who gets caught in a time warp to experience the suffering of the two groups he hates the most (blacks and jews). There is a segment where he is supposedly in Vietnam which doesn't go anywhere (because the scenes that were to be part of this sequence is where he got killed) but the producers stuck it in anyway. The next segment KICK THE CAN is directed by Spielberg who was continuing his period of working with children carried over from his film E.T. (and would culminate to his work on HOOK). This is a typical Spielberg directed sequence with a standout performance of Scatman Crothers as the instigator who entices the residences of an old folks home to think young again. The third segment ITS A GOOD LIFE is probably the most bizarre taking the original story to a more light-hearted approach. A boy who has the power to make anything he wishes come true while holding his family and townspeople at bay (in terror) was much more scarier and serious in the original tv episode. Director Joe Dante's take on it is more of a cartoon with a surprisingly upbeat and happy ending compared to the original's very downbeat ending.Read more ›

When I first saw this movie I thought it was good but now after seeing some of the reruns of the classic episodes of the original TV show that were remade in this movie I have to say that the stories are much better in the TV show, the movie is still okay and the Gremlin segment with John Lithgow is good but once you have seen the original Gremlin episode with William Shatner you realize just how much better it is, it was a lot creepier then the movie and the Gremlin is scarier, also though the segment with the boy with with the power to makes his wishes come true was okay the original classic episode with Billy Mumy is a lot better and the classic has an ending that you really don't expect especially after seeing the cliched happy ending of the movie version. I liked the Kick The Can segment in the movie with Scatman Crothers but I haven't seen the original episode yet but I'm sure it is great. The only segment I didn't enjoy was the one with Vic Morrow, The tragic accident that killed him and those two children they were going to use as extras totally marred that segment, it is just so sad! Well anyway the rest of the movie is good but the original classic TV show is better and I would love to have that classic show on DVD especially with my favorite episodes!

the Twilight Zone movie was an attempt to recreate the magic of the original Rod Serling masterpiece series. However, I find it rare indeed to actually succeed in recreating an already perfect original. This film was made before the use of computer technology which shows its age, particularly in the remake of "Its a Good Life" where puppets are used which have no realism whatsoever. Also, the recreation of "Nightmare at 20,000 feet" was a good attempt at recreating a classic story, but just doesn't hold up to the imagination of the original.
I may be somewhat biased because I am a true fan of the original Twilight Zone, but this movie is part of the collection since it does attempt to give us a new take on the Twilight Zone stories and includes a new story not from the series as well. I believe this film also inspired the 1980s recreation of the series on TV. If you are a TZ fan, you will probably want to include it as part of your collection. If not, you probably will be disappointed in the stories as well as the outdated technology used in the film.

Having only occasionally viewed the TWILIGHT ZONE tv series on sky in the afternoon, i did not have many expectations or quotas of what this movie should conform, or compare to. So, unlike certain reviewers i cannot give a detailed analysis of the movie compared to the tv series. what i did see of the tv series i thought was ok, and nothing like this. For a start this is a big-budget colour movie, unlike the black and white tv series.
Of the movie itself, my thoughts before hand were that it would be quite good. The great thing about horror movies chopped into mini- segments is that they don't bore you out like some normal horrors do. if you don't like a particular segment, you can skip it, which came in useful in this case.
i loved the introduction. the bit with dan akroyd and brooks driving along in the car and then the great bit where dan akroyd goes into talk about the twilight zone and starts up: "want to see something really scary?" was one of the movie highlights for me. the actual segments ranged from laughably bad to pretty good. segment 1 i liked. the prejudiced man stuck in the timewarp acting out races he didn't like was clever. i thought the bit with the ku klux klan calling the white man a 'nigger' was very surreal. i woud rate it 70%.
segment 2, about the elderly people, was very sugary sweet. i couldn't make out what it had to do with the creepiness of the twilight zone. it was a cute idea, just out of place i thought. too boring. i would give it 45%.
segment 3 was rubbish in my opinion. forgive my slight crudeness, but it really was a load of balls.i only half understood it. plain weird, with the cartoon theme and all. 35%.
segment 4 was the best. good acting, and the monster made me jump on a coulple of occasions. very well done and directed.
