2.0 out of 5 stars I feel seriously cheated here! Oct. 16 2012

No complaints about the writing, plot, characters or style, my complaint is that I was tempted to buy this book by the positive reviews on this page. I was then introduced into a decent story with a believable Jacobean era detective/action background then, when everything was coming satisfactorily to the boil, dropped in the dark. No closure, just an invitation to go for more books from this author.
Honestly, this book is as satisfying to read as a clip from a decent movie is, compared to watching the whole thing. It's a taster! Nowhere in these reviews am I warned that what I am reading is little more than a serial in much bigger (presumably) whole. Poor reviewing i.m.h.o. Well let me put you straight; if you want an exciting highwayman themed half-story, this is it.
It's a shame because this author can write; however, I for one feel deceived enough to give the rest of this series a miss.
Be warned!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and historical June 30 2013

The historical nature of the story is interesting and told well. The action is expressed in a thrilling way and will make you want more, as will the mystery surrounding the plot. The problem as I see it, is that the repetition will bore the reader to tears. The story should have been a novella and the repetitive parts cut. Would have made for a better read.

I can't praise this book up enough,I just loved it, the charactures, the story....I could almost imagine I was actually there! The research done for this book is fantastic, brings back the atmosphere so well of times gone by. I will certainly be reading more by this author. A well deserved 6/6. Brilliant read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tyburn Dec 31 2011

Great rolicking read. The author obviously spent a lot of time researching the history of the era. He has combined this factual background with a wonderfully interesting cast of characters and an entertaining storyline that literaly brings the pages of the book to life. As a reader, I quickly got caught up in story and felt as I were actually there, complete with all of the sights, sounds and smells. I finished reading this book in two days and am well into the follow-on book, "Tally-HO."
